> and almost the entire value is driven by scamming opportunities That’s a bizarre claim. Maybe you should read up on previous high value domain name sales before making such statements. The asking price is perfectly reasonable even if y

From what? Generally fail2ban only exposes unnecessary attack surface while providing zero benefit.

Why bring up ICANN? They don’t control .com, verisign does.

I know who works at DarkMatter, it’s this part I was picking up on: >Nobody critics these people who voluntarily go there to work and instead we all pretend "Technology is Neutral". This really doesn’t match my experiences. May

As you say, someone else has already given Chevron that money. Buying Chevron shares from “some other gambler” does not give Chevron money.

> So you're proposing the Ecuadorian government should've given a whole lot of money to Chevron to be able to have a say in the matter? Why would buying Chevron shares necessitate giving Chevron money?

The timeline in the story seems to confirm that assumption.

Isn’t that really for twitter to decide? Besides, weren’t the people who had opted out from the “Let people who have your phone number find you on Twitter” unaffected by this?

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to point out that lots of the speculation here about NSA hosting phishing pages or secret captcha-free google for analysts under nsa.gov falls firmly into the chemtrail category of crazy conspiracy theories.

I’ve seen people use third party services that work with the DMV to make them materialize magically.

Yeah, I get strong chemtrail vibes from many of the comments here.

You can usually immediately get temporary transfer plates that’ll be valid for a month everywhere(?) in the EU.

The “pay” part really depends on the value of the car and if you have a big pile of cash handy. Recently instant SEPA transfers have made this easier, but not available between all banks.

It’s not, that’s just standard akamai WAF behaviour. E: sorry, HN is throttling me and I can’t reply below. This is just a silly web application firewall that blocks a list of “suspicious strings”. There’s not much else to be said about it.

Nothing especially interesting happening here, someone just pointed captcha.nsa.gov at google.com in their akamai config. Perhaps they’re just using google.com like example.com, or they’re trying to serve recaptcha under nsa.gov.

Is bribery really harmful enough to necessitate custodial sentences? Especially in the EU, where our criminal justice systems aren’t nearly as unreasonable as in the US.
