The problem with your argument is that indistinguishable doesn't mean the equal. I'm not saying there is no difference between adjacent colors. I'm saying that the difference is indistinguishable. A lot of indistinguishabl

I don't follow. Two given colors being indistinguishable doesn't imply that any two colors are indistinguishable.

I'm curious—is there a point to giving two separate names to two colors which are indistinguishable from one another to the human eye? There are zero people in the world who can tell #FF4500 from #FF4501, so aren't they effectivel

I actually had this same phenomenon with a desk that was shipped to me recently! The top came in its own box with a huge picture of a TV on it. At first I was really confused, but then I realized that while the huge picture was a TV, the

Nope, currently siftrss is geared totally toward filtering the content which exists in the feed already. The goal is to keep the tool good at doing that one thing. That is a neat idea, though!

Cool indeed! As for Medium feeds, it's all about whether or not you can find a pattern in the data to exploit. For instance, maybe links for comments contain "/c/" whereas links for posts contain "/p/

I did see that a while back—I'm actually a Feedly user myself! I haven't looked at their implementation much, but I imagine it only works on Feedly itself whereas siftrss is meant to be totally agnostic to what reader you use. Th

Even if they did this in all Starbucks locations, I can't see it really making any money. Ten seconds on a laptop CPU rounds to zero. Coinhive has just never made any sense to me in practice. Maybe 5+ years ago, but not today.

I am also in whole-hearted agreement with Linus, here. In fact, I ran into this just recently. I discovered one of our systems at work actually stored encrypted passwords rather than just hashed ones, and decrypted it for validation.

Yes, fair enough—I guess it's more about the low effort on both sides of the equation. I suppose I do value articles which make it easy for me to quickly digest more complex ideas, but this this in particular is just... almost the bat

I'm really disappointed at how Buzzfeed-esque this piece is and (even more so) how it could reach the front page of HN. I'd like to think that easily-digestible, low-effort articles don't have a place in this community, but

I use this trick when I want to buy something online which I don't absolutely need. I'll add it to a wish list on Amazon (or even put it in my cart) and then leave the site. When I come back a few days or weeks later, I often fi
