There are workarounds for most restrictions like that, e.g. there is a shell company in New Caledonia that owns `rya.nc` on my behalf.

the WebCrypto API has an exportable: false option, though the fact that there's no way to serialize a non-exportable key limits the usefulness of this.

I think, to a large extent, this is a question of threat models. You're absolutely right that a lot of E2EE is fundamentally a "circle of protection against law", but that doesn't mean it isn't useful. The protectio

I would argue that the "distributed by the same entity which it purports to secure against" is a less relevant distinction than this makes it out to be. Consider, for example, Signal's progenitor, TextSecure, or E2EE for RCS.

If you used a per-user-list salt, then it would be about as useful as obfuscating phone numbers by hashing them. The list must then be enumerable in N*x time, where x is the time to hash one user, and N is the cardinality of the search spac

There are, in fact, non-frivolous DKIM issues, such as DKIM selectors for which the private key is available or can be cracked. Historically, 512 bit RSA was somewhat common, and old selectors don't always get removed.
