Without knowing the exact split of stock/cash that's difficult to answer, but we can at least say the cash portion is taxed at capital gains rates.

There's already a tax on that $18 billion, it's at least a capital gains tax of 20% (not to mention the income taxes on all the attorney's, accountants, etc... involved in the deal). You just need to fix the allocation of

What I've found anecdotally from my wife and other girls I talk to about negotiating salary is they usually downplay it's importance because they get too attached to the position/company "Oh well I really like this place

All true, but I think there is a misconception that if we all just recycle more and drive hybrids that climate change will stop. We are accelerating climate change, but even if we stopped all carbon now Bangladesh will still be under water

That's what I was thinking. Mentally taxing work is usually more rewarding at the end of the day than physically taxing work.

Who's sweeping problems under the rug? I'm simply saying it's not something you need to fear, unless you plan to enter the drug trade instead of coding.

Those statistics mean little outside of cohorts. I would wager to guess the murder rate for the class of people who visit HackerNews is 1 per 10,000,000. Being randomly murdered is not a rational fear in America.

What you are describing is starting a business not learning computer science. Women could start a health care company, or at-home nursing, etc... and get bought for a billion something (in theory).

That's what I was thinking. I remember CS101 at my school had a decent amount of women, but by the time you reached 3rd year they all had disappeared.

Who is your customer? You need to go to where they are. Depending on your customer there will be wildly different marketing strategies.

That was happening to me, I realized it was using whatever zipcode I put in to signup in like 2002. If you change that you'll get local ads at least.

If someone was using a dark pattern and interrupted my game play to take me to the App Store, you'd better bet I wouldn't rate it 5 stars, so I'm not sure about this theory.

I'm not entirely sure click farms are the cause. When I ran a recent "Like my Page" campaign as a test, I noticed 99% or something absurd came from Facebook mobile. I think it's just way easier for people to accidental

I saw a couple of people saying things like this, it always seemed to me they are different customers, Trello is for internal project management, where Basecamp is better for external client facing management (which is what 37s made it for

Profitable companies take VC money all the time. In fact, I would guess that's where most VC money goes to (despite all the high profile SV startups that get press). Companies do so to grow at a faster rate.

I get the feeling if a majority of people had switched to the new Basecamp, they would have killed off the old one, but it's such a breadwinner, they are not going to take it away, although I suspect if it ever gets to the point that a

Sometimes a liquidity event is quite a ways off. This is partly why founders of Groupon, early employees of Facebook, etc... sold to secondary markets even when their companies were quite promising. People like money today more than money

If you are a US citizen and purchase something from a British site in pounds, you wouldn't expect a refund in dollars would you? You assume the risk of currency fluctuation and fees.

The key isn't so much the home but the social workers they provide. Most homeless people are not just folks like you and I who happened to be out of work a little longer, they are people with various mental illnesses and addictions.
