Someone chime in here if I'm wrong, but evolution is not a refutation of the claim that an untestable, magical ur-Id skulks about the universe. I'm serious--the theory that we are talking about has absolutely nothing to say about your "firs

Your summary matches what I read. The blog post was rather short, and the only thing the author seems to dislike is the naming scheme. Very odd.

He doesn't have a wiki in my native tongue, so I had to chuck google translate at http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Scheele . The results seem to indicate he is a nobody, but I could be wrong. Also, could anyone provide a better translat

Creative Commons has a fun license called CC0 that you might enjoy: http://wiki.creativecommons.org/CC0 While I'm not comfortable with the idea myself (I'm a big fan of attribution), it certainly looks attractive.

I didn't mean the title tag--I meant the first story title (the SEO kids talk about google fixating on the first h1 tag of a site, I though it might be a similar idea). I have no idea what this upper limit change would do, but good luck.

The comments so far refer to the "sentiment deducer" aspect of the service. They've brought up some examples of how it's not working right now, but they missed an important question: what in the world is "positive sentiment" abstracted from

I'd like to hear from a company that has done their research and now has interesting results--I don't want to be ping'd everytime a baby company has a wacky, untested theory and a need to generate buzz. Tell me upfront that you will release

I perked my ears at some bizarre method for pagination without PHP, but the title is just wrong here. Actual title: "Pagination with jQuery, MySQL and PHP." Which puts it solidly back in the realm of the boring. Pagination is something ever

Right, there was a HN survey a few days ago using google docs--it had palm trees in the background and everything!

What is up with the tiny icons littering the bottom of that post? I enjoyed the article, but it feels weird to get design advice from a page with such a deficient menu.

I've got to say, I can't handle polldaddy. The whole "multi-page wizard" feel is awfully corporate.

Every last one of the economics courses I've taken was smothered in caveats about the underlying assumptions--you could make a drinking game out of it. Fields like behavioral economics address specific criticisms with new theory, making BE

Multiplying some random functions together caused me to twitch, but I like the "metric of the month". Having got to the end, I think the hand-wavium was an okay way to relate your idea.

Assuming caffeine/cup is linear (2 cups =~ 2x caffeine), the second graph you made shows caffeine consumption vesus age. Since average consumption goes down in the last age group, your sample does not show a steady increase with age. edit:

Thanks for the fast fix! And check out the reversal in apparent trend: the 36-50 group has higher average consumption in your sample.

3D graphs, oy vey. Author needs to adjust for the number of respondents in each group. Giving us just the mean for each group would convey more information. If the histogram thing is just too appealing to ditch, they should make two: avg. #

Radical? We've been hearing the AP rail about this stuff for years. Newsweek and Mark Cuban need to read a little news before they claim something is new.
