This is a strange argument. You are arguing that HFT has a big effect on society (ie. the rest of us), but at the same time you are saying that society should not have a say in how or indeed if HFT is conducted?

This is a sort of determinism built in to capitalist morality: If money can be extracted from something, then it is always good and just to do so. Natural, in fact. (And to be extremely clear, I would say the same thing about pushing ads: j

That's an interesting analogy, because I often find that the counterarguments sound a lot like techies arguing that encryption cannot have negative consequences.

This all sounds so perverse to me. There are so many obviously brilliant people working on these things. Why aren't they doing something productive with their time? Fighting climate change, educating uneducated, feeding the unfed. All

The CLI is Java and probably not well documented. In the past I think Open Whisper systems have been hostile to third party client builds interacting with their servers, so I'm not sure they'd welcome third party client implementa

I think it's a bit much to expect their entire support staff to write in perfect English, since they are not based in an English-speaking country. I don't think it's a very big operation, either. I have one of their boards an

I would love to have something like this but self-hosted and without the Firebase dependency. But maybe this would be a starting point.

There is a very new web standard for registering your site as a sharing target. It only works on Chrome and I assume Apple won't be rushing to implement it. https://web.dev/web-share-target/

YMMV. I started learning on Eagle and switched to Kicad. It's correct that library handling and pcbnew/eeschema interaction is a little weird, but just for laying out things I always found Eagle's user interface to be obtuse

My personal laptop is a Lenovo X200s from 2008 or 2009 with 8GB RAM. I use it to write words, read PDFs, do some software development (most often C and "vanilla" web stuff), design electronics in Kicad, and casually browse the web

With LiveView, you've got one code base. There's no frontend/backend split, so you don't think about the API, you don't worry about going back and forth between JSON and all the associated error handling, you don&#x

In Denmark, universities (and possibly high schools too, I don't know for sure) get paid by the government based on the number of students passing exams every semester. I think this is part of what's called "new public manage

There's no really separate video memory on the original Mac, just the 21kb buffer that's updated by software. When it needs to, the video circuitry grabs the bus and reads the pixels it needs and outputs them. (There's probab

I'm not saying you shouldn't make abstractions. I'm saying that Tailwind (in the context of a SPA framework) makes for better abstractions than traditional CSS.

I also grew up in the CSS Zen Garden era, and I've become a big Tailwind proponent. To me what is cringe-worthy is hanging on to ideas about what this medium is that just no longer apply. For better or worse, the web stack has been app
