There was a lot of theories in the early days that this is what Google would do, as I recall. I'm actually sad they didn't. Imagine what the world would look like if gmail (and Facebook) had cost a dollar or three per month, thoug

Norns is made and supported by Monome, and it is very much supposed to be a Product That You Can Buy... except unfortunately it's based on the Compute Module 3, which has been unavailable for a good while. They have been available in s

And what's funny is that not even this concept did the Indians invent themselves, it's just a blatant rip-off of the Arab tradition of blaming everything on the Mongols sacking Baghdad! /s

As far as I understand, "government" in (American) English refers to the set of institutions, not the people currently holding office.

I work for a Danish startup. Can't comment on the market, but we're looking for another round of funding and oh dear was this a whole lot more fun two years ago when we got our for pre-seed.

My great grandfather competed in painting in '32. He's a piece of family history I think of often in the "what-if" sense, a not-so-remarkable painter, born the year after Hitler.

I developed a need recently to gather some answers to a few simple questions from people all around the internet. Maybe a few hundred at most. I don't want to make a Google survey or a Doodle or any of that. It's not for me, not o

That's shifting the goal posts quite significantly. HTML is machine-readable because it's less powerful than a drawing API. There's a lot of applications that can't be created with plain HTML.

It's weird, right? A wordpress blog that wrapped each combination of materials in a separate five page article and republished them every week with slight changes would do better.

Not all programming is about making maximal products in minimal time. I also use hand tools all the time, a lot more than if I was a carpenter billing by the hour. How artless one must be to worry about 'traction' off the clock!

The usual solution is somehow proxying through a local server, e.g. RPi in the cupboard. Alternatively, one can accept that one's BBS browsing goes over the internet in plain text.

One of the big papers in my country ran a FirstClass BBS, which my family had access to for a few years before it was eaten by the internet. I remember it quite fondly, and indeed it was a great interface.

For any budding Douglas Couplands out there, I think there's going to be at least a few chapters, if not a whole novel's worth of stories in being at Twitter the next six months to a year. (To say nothing of the last month!)
