I found the 6-part series at https://desfontain.es/privacy/differential-privacy-awesomene... a very good introduction as well.

I think the deeper insight here is not limited to Cognitect or Clojure: it is that once software gains traction, it is no longer up to the author to determine alpha/beta/stable status. If something is widely depended upon, it will

There is https://blog.darknedgy.net/technology/2020/05/02/0/ which puts systemd in its historical context, explains some of the criticism, and then goes into the technical details. It's a long

The features intended to make it easy to use, in the end lead to surprising behavior, often with values having non-string types where you expected strings. There are some examples in https://www.arp242.net/yaml-config.html .

A slightly more recent post, that really opened my eyes to this insight (and references The Bitter Lesson) is this piece by Gwern on the scaling hypothesis: https://www.gwern.net/newsletter/2020/05#gpt-3

Do you mean “the expression ‘16-bit’ sounds harsh to my ears”, or do you mean that you can hear the difference between 16 and 24 bits per sample? The effect of bit depth has little to do with how you perceive the sound; what adding more bit

I made my site open source so others who like it can take a look at how it works, or give it their own twist. Visitors of my site can see that they have that freedom, but visitors of an adaptation might not know if it’s not stated anywhere.

Thanks, I’m flattered to see it be used as inspiration :) I searched quickly but I didn’t find that repository. You might want to link it somewhere in your footer or from a comment in the html.

The Prolog/Datalog comparison is fair, Datomic (the subject of the “Deconstructing the Database” talk linked at the end) is built around this idea of accumulating facts, and it uses a Datalog-like query language. But you don’t need any

The page only says “You need to enable JavaScript to run this app.” I expected some kind of live demo, so I enabled Javascript. It turned out to be a static page with text. Not even a toggle-able menu on narrow screens, just a static page.

This doen’t seem to be particularly new or specific to Netflix. When I am reading a catchy book at night, I often read more chapters than I intended to, occasionally until deep in the night.

We only did this to fix the performance regression we observed after upgrading to GHC 8.6, but in hindsight I think it is cleaner anyway. With GHC 8.2 the list construction was eliminated, but the optimization turned out to be fragile.

The inline/noinline annotations on the inner functions we only had to add for GHC 8.6 though; on GHC 8.2 it was fast without these. (That turned out to be a downside, relying on a long chain of optimizations is fragile.)
