I think that his problem is that he has always sought external validation. He wanted the world to affirm his greatness. This isn't likely to happen. The occupational world is interested only in treating one as a fungible resource. The world

Nothing you say here is substantiated. Why is it bad to laud hackers? Why is the term "athlete" more "stupid" than "hacker?" How do sports cartoons make the "parody" less conspicuous? On you final note, both 42floors and Jason Freedman are

It does not encourage you to do more of it when it is solely an obligation. I think eating is a bad example because people eat for pleasure, whereas people only write for utility. People rarely if ever write simply because they enjoy writin

You don't understand my point. I agree that one can try to derive pleasure from such things. I know I do. But that pleasure doesn't encourage people to eat more, and a lack of pleasure doesn't compel you not to eat. The pursuit of pleasure

The Pilot G2s are the best on the market, in my opinion. I use both the .38 and .7 in various situations. Both are exquisite and under $2 each.

To me, writing has always been an exercise in utilitarianism, and is done out of necessity. I can't comprehend why having a nicer pen would cause one to write more. Writing is not some sort of art that one is meant to appreciate (not that i

The organic pattern and light color are somewhat distracting. It also doesn't seem thematically consistant, and sort of belies the idea of a modern site focused on programming. Most of all, I just get this visceral sense that wood grain is

I think one's interpretation of "poor" rests primarily on location. This is for two reasons. First, location determines absolute cost of living, and can effect quality of life. 40k might be above the median, but it barely livable in Manhatt

I have a profound respect and reverence for people who pursue careers (or anything, for that matter) because of an innate passion. Unfortunately, I don't really feel that way about anything that could be considered or performed as an occupa

New sites frequently tell one what to do with their life, or at least how one ought to act or think in a given situation. People don't write things because they like typing, they write things to impress some concept on their reader and infl

It's a shame that the price is so onerously high. I find that this is a common trend among technical books: they are often made inaccessible by their prices. Even if a small subset of the market is willing to shell out, such high prices pro

This is especially problematic with companies like Quora, which coerce you into downloading their app. They literally obfuscate all answers and tell you to download the app, which is absurd. Here is the actual wording: http://cl.ly/image/1

In some places- for instance, my school- iOS penetration is probably above 60%. Mind you, this is a school district populated by quite a few low-income families. In more affluent areas, it's north of 90%.

Granted, I'm in 11th grade, but I and most others I know have a non-trivial amount of cash. (Though, since I have no income for 75% of the year, I try not to spend anything.) Most people in my cohort aren't exactly destitute. Certainly, a b

I just don't like people flaunting their success. Even if other do enjoy it as some sort of aspirational motivation, the sentiment is understandable, I think. The sardonicism and patronization isn't necessary.
