Few things are easier to miss than a string that breaks your (nontrivial) regex. I’d like to see a mathematical estimate of the number of test strings I should generate given some input regex.

Thank you! Arthur C Clarke raised a similar point in Childhood's End. When confronted with some alien silver viewscreen, which everyone thought was some advanced thing, one character asked what if is a simple two way mirror? Point is

Some of the games appeared to not have randomness (eg PacMan ghost patterns). Was this an intentional gameplay feature, or did the hardware lack a suitable source of entropy?

What I take from your question is, were the other health issues the thing that actually killed the heart? Following from that, how can we declare something not successful when the odds are significantly stacked against it from the start?

[1] is excellent, thank you! It leads to another question, how did it come to Eisenhower’s attention that this is what was needed? And [2] promises that answer. Before reading that, I was thinking some mechanic, or perhaps a farm hand tur

My 100++ problem with recipe sites is a useless story about how my great aunt Ellie passed this down to me from her mom,. . . Making me scroll through random stuff until I land on “ingredients.” I favor the simple site. (Ads are okay even,

Interesting! Do you store your own recipes, or does this scrape recipies from other sites? I like the lack of ads and overall simplicity. Well done!

But that's assuming one-at-a-time connections, no? A true BBS would allow multiple connections. Plus, OP's timeframe was 1980, yours is 1985. A couple years back then meant major differences in capabilities, costs, offerings.

This came out at the start of the pandemic. Very useful advice. I’d add, make your intentions clear on asynchronous communications: state your intention/purpose/request on the first line of your email message, then follow it with

None of the screens show the obligatory colored bar graph and pie charts, an image often used to convey “this computer is also serious!” to the on-the-fence parents that were contemplating their wide-eyed kids’ pleas.

And what if you flip it over turf, e.g. at a large stadium during a huge televised sporting event? The implications on all of it are pretty big.

If the number of 1's itself is prime, then n is prime. That's all this does. Search the other comments for 'hung' or 'hang' to see examples of small numbers that take forever to resolve.

Yes, and it is our lot that decries software bloat. We know what can be done with K bytes, why do we need K * K * K to simply boot?
