Every YouTube creator has to do this now as well. They "apologize in advance" or qualify just about everything they say to make sure they don't get eviscerated in comments in case they make a mistake or were even just slightl

I really enjoyed this book - it wasn't on the level of "Soul of a New Machine" in terms of writing, but the subject matter was really interesting. As a software guy, it was a great way to understand what's going on at th

1. Nice implementation of a potentially useful micro service. 2. Nice domain name. 3. You should put more details in your FAQ like "no, this is not guaranteed to be a perfect technical solution" and "we'll happily work w

In case anyone else was slightly mixed up like I was: Joe Haldeman the author is not H.R. "Bob" Haldeman of the Nixon administration, who died in 1993. It was Howard Hunt who was the novelist (and Watergate burglar), not the White

Sooo... what? This is easily the third or fourth time this has been linked to in Hacker News. What relevance does it have to anything? Everyone who uses .io domains are horrible, insensitive people? Those who use .me domains should be forev

In my opinion, it's not that we need a new HyperCard, we need a HyperCard for handhelds, like tablets and smartphones. On-device programming, accessible by the layman. Microsoft Research's TouchDevelop is definitely doing some coo

The root problem here is that every HTML WYSIWIG editor (from MS Word to TinyMCE) uses their own special blend of tags when creating HTML. There's only a handful of tags that are generated by Markdown, the problem is that editors often

Ever notice how people from the UK tend to generalize in a condescending way that only really serves to highlight their backward, provincial attitudes? Sort of like this?

Here you go: https://gist.github.com/russellbeattie/5553420 It queues up the words and then has 10 processes check the domains. But it won't do much for you, as whois.nic.io barfs after a short while from too many connections.
