It really depends on the use case. In vanilla WebRTC, all media is transmitted directly between peers. In practice, this doesn’t scale beyond 5-10 users in a session. Most home internet connections can’t sustain that amount of upstream band

Yeah! Wanted a really fast/frictionless way for people to jump into a context based on signals in their environment. This was also around the time of Color (the photo app which raised 40m or something off just a pitch deck) — “ambient

Hah! Working backwards would yield some hits for sure. “Feather” (a play off a quill) was my prototype (I built a lot of prototypes there in my “spare” time :)) for a richer, write/tweet only app. You could author long-form content, qu

There’s a big graveyard of products/companies that have tried to kill Larry over the years. Meta has been trying since 2009. Back then, a former, well-known Facebook employee once told me not to join Twitter (thankfully, I didn’t liste

Lol, I built this exact thing as a 120% project at Twitter in 2011. It was called “Flocks”. It even had transient/temporal flocks based on geo check-in and sound-fingerprint flocks for movies, tv shows, and events. We implemented the S

iirc owner access to the cameras on Teslas is pretty limited (and finicky). I thought it would be great if Tesla footage could automatically hook into the AMBER alert database.

Just learned that JT Nimoy, the lead code artist who worked on the TL visuals passed away in 2020. Her work was incredible. RIP JT. Edit: some more technical details about the effects JT built https://web.archive.org/web

In 2004 or 2005, Gordon came to UCD and gave a talk about computing — both history and future. It was unintentionally intimate: the overhang of the dotcom bust lead to the CS department’s lowest enrollment in history. Gordon had a really th

I remember my dad’s friend joined 3dfx in ‘94 and we became testers for all their prototype cards. Being able to play Virtua Fighter on our PC still ranks as one of the most magical moments I’ve had with technology.

You certainly could, there are some folks in the community building Twitch-like livestreaming experiences with LiveKit. One of my teammates built a mobile livestreaming demo app, perhaps I can convince him to release the code. ;) Update: Gi

It certainly would be nice! Having a common layer for signaling (whether Rust or C++), which could be used across client SDKs is something we're evaluating. You'd still need a (albeit thinner) platform-specific SDK for the final i
