If I had that wealth I would still keep coding... just for fun and for the sake of coding! Probably I would focus on something extraordinary, like robotics or AI.

ICQ/OSCAR protocol is totally insecure in essence, any attempt to fight spam on ICQ network is futile. It's kind of same as with email/SMTP.

There's a great and unstoppable tendency in Russia to switch to Jabber, so I wonder why would someone want to invest huge pile of money into almost dead service based on a centuary old technology? Either investors are dumb or there's some g

Why not just order "GEB: An Eternal Golden Braid" and read it ? The book is much more interstnig than any such course derived from it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Godel-Escher-Bach-Eternal-anniversar...

Bureaucracy is a part of human nature and it cannot be fixed. Neither in Russian nor in any other country. Once it's there it cannot be eliminated, unless you kill half the country population. Same is true for corporate sector.

I live in Russian and am running an IT startup. I can tell you that nobody here in Russia takes these kinds of things seriously. It's clear even to a first grade kid that the only goal to almost any government endeavor that has "sience" or

Omg, yet another YC startup has been killed^H^H^H^H^Hacquired ? Oh well, hope the team has been offered something little bit more material, beside "the resources and freedom to build cool stuff". :-)

Except "go open source" (which is very questionable!) most startups do: -- launch at big confs or through popular blogs like techcrunch, which is essentially the same. -- stealth development. -- launch with features previously unseen on the

I liked this post in the comments: A couple of weeks ago I lectured in front of a classroom (in Belgium). I never prepare these things because I – naively – assume that the audience will want to know how it is to run a tech. start-up, like

All along through the interview he does not say anything new, alway repeating that Zimbra was a great open source product which spread virally. Unfortunately I could not find any piece of advice there. 40 minutes wasted.

Somehow I missted that point in history when Open Source, from just an idiom and good philosophy for programmers, turned into big and dirty politics. This is all very disappointing.
