Hold on now. Swap over NFS? I’m amazed this is viable. I guess the difference between line and device speed wasn’t as vast as it is now. Having read the article it makes more sense. They need additional capacity for the RAM disk.

I think it was meant to be satirical. Like, it’s supposed to be about how the old folks want the young folks to be. Pleasant times.

Yes but that’s the security manager doing it not the field modifiers. It’s just reusing the modifiers as security metadata.

Satire is not a tool for change. In fact the opposite as laughter sublimates the emotions that would otherwise lead to action (cf Orwell’s 1984). However people are not always in a position to change things and satire can be a useful outlet

The original idea of satire was to make fun of unjust leaders. It doesn’t have to be as sophisticated as swift at all. It just has to strike a chord (originally, literally) with the audience.

Field modifiers are a semantic constraint not a security constraint. It is right and proper that you should be able to bypass them with the appropriate backflips. The main issue is safety cause you might modify something that isn’t modifiab

I never considered that awk was a precursor to JavaScript but I can certainly see that

Guaranteed initialisation rules I would imagine. A lot of languages don’t do this, or assign null or something. For a language with a narrow scope of application you can this but in more general purpose languages it makes less sense.

I love awk as a language / framework. If it got an uplift to make it useful for more complex problems it would be an absolute winner for lots of basic data processing tasks. I’ve often written incantations many lines long and even brok

It seems to me an approach would be to purposely deoptimize such a P2P network for these applications. Optimise for time-insensitive best effort delivery like the internet of old. Still plenty of applications can work to that model and it i

Lots of companies ran a mile from data once GDPR dropped and it’s pretty much a standard threat model for new information architectures

> My take is that this was the intention behind the October 7th attack I see very strong parallels between this and the Dublin 1916 rising. I don't believe the leaders of the Irish rebels could beat the British - it was seen as a &q

I don't expect anything would change how you see things. Once you're justifying the murder of civilians including children aid workers and medics, you're too far gone. Best I can hope for is a laugh at your expense.
