He probably read too many Linux kernel mailinglist posts recently. But I agree on the Devon Zuegel praise. Most of the good devs and managers are gone. Only brian for the git SHA-256 migration is still there I think, though he got no time f

What? Jakarta's biggest problem is the rising sea level and the sinking ground. Jakarta is one of the fastest sinking cities globally. Venice or Miami are nothing compared to this. 40% will be gone soon. https://storymaps.ar

And I remember the longstanding argument why women should not be allowed to vote in France, because that's what brought Hitler to power. They were the third last European country to do so, only Greece and Switzerland were more backward

We kinda always leave documentation and test bugs in. Documentation teams have different scheduling, and tests are nice TODO's. There are also always bugs detected after shipping (usually in beta), which need to be accounted for.

If you host you are running on my cPanel SW. 70% of the internet is doing that. Also a kinda centralized point of failure, but I didn't hear of any bugs in the last 14 years.

Not at all. I use to maintain myriad of packages with restructured text, asciidoc, XML, perl pod and tex, but markdown all supercede it. I could easily represent the long word spec for the DWG format in markdown with gh tables, rendering it

Multi-player started with Doom 2. Original doom was single player only. Doom 2 was for 4 players which I used in my mod ArsDoom. Quake then extended it to scale via a dedicated quake server.

The compiler knows about the sizes by either statically allocated sizes (_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2, __builtin_object_size) or malloc'ed sizes (_FORTIFY_SOURCE=3, __builtin_dynamic_object_size). See e.g. https://developers.redhat.com

If the optimizer cannot see the sizes, it has to defer the error to run-time. If it sees it (as with _FORTIFY_SOURCE=3) it fails at compile0-time already. The difference to _FORTIFY_SOURCE is that it guarantees to fail, whereas with _FORTI
