Same with grafic tablets. You can't get around that. Which is okay – normal pencils wear down as well.

Worst compared with what? I mainly use Acrobat Pro, but I find myself opening my PDFs in Firefox more and more. Acrobat is really slooooooow, it takes ages for a cold start, and after it started the whole thing gets locked up for a minute o

It just looks like WhatsApp – why not use that instead? For those who miss the "Saved Messages" thing from Telegram: You make a group and kick out everybody. Then you are in a group – alone. Now stick it to the top of WA and voilá

Both theories are somewhat incomprehensible for normal human beings. The idea, that everythinw we know just came into existence at some point is as shocking as trying to think of something that has no beginning and no end. We humans are i

Never heard of it either, but the homepage provides some info: > GraphicsMagick is originally derived from ImageMagick 5.5.2 as of November 2002 but has been completely independent of the ImageMagick project since then.

What we see here is a final rebellion of the big media companies worldwide. In Germany we have seen something similar. In the end, it's highway robbery: Google is made to pay to the mediacorp, but it is not allowed to de-index them eit

Well, I think nobody really got the punchline, huh? Mozilla laid off nearly all their engineers – which are the ~250 people, who are A QUARTER of Mozilla. Wait what? What for do they need so many people? Everybody who is not brainfried

It's a Revit problem. Autodesk is known for hating on OpenBIM, since it threateans their hegemony. I've never heard of anyone saying everything went smooth when dealing with Revit + IFC. It's still not certified for IFC 4 and

Was reyling on Autodesk a bad idea? Sure it was! Do you have any idea of the AEC industry? Does not seem so. Funny enough, those big offices signing the open letter are so big they actually have in-house devs. But this is only feasible for

Well, we do, and we are pretty successful. Archicad is Hungarian, Allplan is German, Tekla originates from Finnland. (Also please note: the offices which signed the open letter to Autodesk are mostly UK-based, so strictly speaking are not m

Depends on the industry. For automotive and even ship design a lot of studios are using it (even not openly, but in a "secret" manner). In AEC many students nowadays use it during university. Some offices use it as well, and if on

Fun fact: Everybody who says "We are not using Rhino" lies. All the big studios might be using Autodesk products in the front, but I know of some who have a senior engineer who has a secret PC in some attic with Rhino installed. I

You're funny. Nobody cares about AutoCAD any longer. For whatever task you have at hand there are better alternatives. Only people stuck in a time loop use it. That being said: The AEC has a deeply troubling problem – It's full of

No wonder all the smaller AEC software firms out there are pushing OpenBIM very hard. If you think you need to convert an Archicad .pln into a Revit .rvt you're doing it wrong and essentially playing into the hands of Autodesk. We real

Exactly because you are a hacker you should be most interested in the most boring possible kind of setup. Those folks never heard of KISS, huh? The whole article just read as a "I don't even now what I'm doing"-thing.

Me too! Thats's why I use Stylus in Firefox. I style most of the sites I visit (I really like dark mode...). What I did on HN was e.g. to apply `.comment { max-width: 35em; }`. That's a much better width!

So much yes! I never understood why you would have to pay for security... "Oh look, our software is inherently insecure, but if you pay more, you can get a mitigation." It truly gives no good light on whatever you sell.
