During QE, the Federal Reserve bought huge amounts of toxic assets from the big banks, and flooded the banks' accounts with new money, but then paid the banks a higher rate of interest NOT to lend that money out (at least this is my un

Rationality, in the economic sense, doesn't mean making objectively correct decisions as perceived from the outside. It means to make decisions in the furtherance of a particular subjective goal. Making decisions that later turn out

This isn't about the President, at least not directly. Obama doesn't deserve credit any more than Bush Jr. deserved credit for navigating us through the .com bust. Since days of Alan Greenspan, the Fed has been inflating us out of

Banks runs may be part of the origin story of central Banks, but it's definitely not the only or main reason they exist. That's what deposit insurance is for, and in the case of the U.S., bank runs continiued for decades after the

Why not go one step further and randomize the teaching pool? Just tell teachers where they can and can't work, just to make sure that all students get a shot at the best teachers. What isn't justifiable in the name of fairness?

In Kentucky, we're going through a pension reform as we speak. Of course, the Republicans are claiming to have fixed it and the Democrats are protesting it, saying they're hanging future retirees out to dry. What no one is saying

I think that Marx's definition of capital is significantly limited in comparison to what others refer to as capital. In a much more common usage, capital is not just money, but any goods and services saved for the later production of c

We're no where close to eliminating scarcity or capital. We're so far from that there is almost no point in giving it serious merit. Probably centuries away. Humans being will be limited by scarcity until we're able to conver

Nice. That's further than I would have gone. I would have written a script to export to CSV, import to SQLite, run the queries, export back to CSV then convert back to Excel. Maybe that's why I don't have my own company...

I hate the idea of regulatory agencies fining anyone for anything. Why should the agency/government get revenue from someone's failure? The purpose of courts is to assign damages, that's the whole reason courts exist. If the
