Nice article thanks. I might try this approach as well. I maintain a large django app, heavy on the back end and light on the front end. We've been discussing modernizing the front end, which is based on jquery and bootstrap, but the i

You still need access to the host, via ssh for example, to start the containers and do some basic maintenance. Won't you have fail2ban installed on the host since your ssh port would be open?

Which tools are you talking about? I'm new to this and I'm just looking around for better options. My use case is app releases and deployments across multiple on premise servers behind private vpn. Deployments are a very manual pr

Haha I thought I was the only one. When I started being interested in coding, I remember printing the code of some mIRC scripts, and later on printing, html/css files. Everything I would learn was because it was in the source of some o

Ah crap I had a long reply but hit refresh on mobile and lost it.. Long story short, we did this with great success. Instead of a feature we made a separate app that people actually pay for more than the main app. It is a "shut up and

Whole reading this I kept thinking "what about dB migrations" and when I reached the end I was a bit disappointed. How do you really handle those? As for docker, as someone who picked it up fairly recently (~3 yes ago), I think it

I know that the whole "it doesn't work without javascript" story sounds like "get off my lawn", but content authors, esp on HN, need to realise that quite a few of us refuse to browse the Web with JS enabled esp on

Is it really a best case scenario, lucid at 97? How bad is it, being non-lucid for the person experiencing it, vs being lucid, when it's time to face your existence?

Yeah, having looked at what the script does I decided to 'containerize' the agent, and that led to other issues like configuring email alerts etc. I was already a week deep into looking at various options and had to deliver on ba

Looks like I'm in the exact same position as you. We already have stable products and happy paying customets, so I try to limit coding to the minimum necessary - it really helps that I'm not the only one working on the products. F

Have you considered adding project templates? For example, if your target audience is developers, a project template would include modules like authentication, authorisation, user management, logging, admin pages, payments, etc. That way as

Twice I fell into the trap of datadog, having paid more than $300 for a single month in each case. The simplicity of it, dashboards, notebooks, logs etc, is what makes it so appealing though.
