I did something similar to this many years ago but didn’t limit to deleted records and instead created an audit log with a very similar approach. It worked nicely and provided a view into how data was changing by our users.

It’s really impossible to allow surveillance capitalism for only some to knowingly opt in. The way Google, Facebook and others are built to vacuum up everything they can get puts those of us who care about our privacy in a losing situation.

Seems like you know the answer. It probably depends on what your goals are… If you intend to make money and or invite a team into the project over time then maybe look for something lots of people use (.Net Core, C++, TypeScript, Java, etc.

Outside of Rails I used to write map/reduce jobs using ruby and a jruby jar file to deploy the job to our hadoop cluster. Startup time for each job is super slow due to jruby but developer ergonomics mattered to me more than efficiency
