Typescript is so much better than almost every other dependently typed language in terms of expressing these things[0], and it's still kind of miserable. We still have a long way to go in figuring out how to get our type systems to be

I do like the idea of a variant of this that also includes some signing and logs that share, well, more of the state involved in this. This sort of work would likely mean that test suites would be built in a way to be run in a more diverse

Very good point. While I think we could do away with the syntactic shorthand, definitely would want to keep some function/method around with the capabilities.

printf-style formatting ("foo %s" % "bar") feels the most ready to be retired (except insofar as it probably never will, because it's a nice shortcut). The other ones at least are based on the same format string syn

I also imagine that quite simply saying "look you can compile this binary as an alternative and run it on the machine" would fit the requirements, even if it doesn't entirely capture the spirit of anti-tivoisation

I can't believe I'm going to say this but if you go over to reason.com and look at reporting on the visa stuff, there are a loooot of arguments going on in the comments. We're not even talking free speech absolutionists! Just

You can support free speech in the abstract, end up defending certain people whose views you hate, and still come up with a good amount of respect. The ACLU is able to maintain respect despite helping some pretty terrible people in court. T

Because people want strong typing, but also want other things. It's possible to want multiple things, and bemoan that whwat you use is still missing things you want. Concretely, Django is way more usable than basically any web framewor

It's super nice to have timestamps as a quick way to know what program you're looking at. Sticking it into --version output is helpful to know if, for example, the Python binary you're looking at is actually the one you just
