It blows my mind that the first site to openly make their users participate in this disaster is the supposedly "progressive" Salon. Is it clear what they're trying to mine? They have these silly feel-good examples like foldin

It doesn't make sense because it's a negative-sum game. The only thing people are actually using Bitcoin for right now is to sell to other people for more than they bought it (or maybe to sell for less than they bought it to laund

I am using the COPY command; it's faster than pg_restore, as far as I can tell. The COPY plus building the index is the part that takes a few hours and doesn't fit well into Docker.

What do you mean by "shouldn't this live somewhere remote"? The input data is on S3 and/or Zenodo, but you need to download it and put it in PostgreSQL. You can't just give arbitrary people remote access to a Postgr

Sure; what tools should I assume are on the target computer to script it, and how do I safely use these tools to modify system configuration like /etc/postgresql/10/main/pg_hba.conf? Docker almost answers these qu

Getting the data into PostgreSQL is a problem in nearly any setup. You can't really copy PostgreSQL's actual data directory around. Subtle differences in configuration (I don't know what they are) will probably cause PostgreS

This article doesn't tell me anything about using Docker for data science, just about using Docker in general. I have tried to use Docker for reproducible research, as a way of distributing ConceptNet with all its dependencies [1]. I

I've had a similar experience, where I'm not even a fan of the Haskell ecosystem overall, but Attoparsec is such an astoundingly good library that it makes everything worth it. It's not just a convenience like other libraries

Nobody has ever redeemed a Tether [1], and there are a lot of people pointing that out. [1] If you're a green-name who's skimmed up to here and you're about to say "but Kraken", I am not talking about selling Tet

Do you want Tether to be audited and regulated like the fractional reserves of a bank? I'd sure find it entertaining while it lasts. This is also moving the goalposts, because they claim that Tether is fully backed, not fractionally.
