I understand what you're trying to get at, Jason. I too have sympathy for those who legitimately can't get a break no matter how hard they try (war vets, the disabled, etc.). But some of these kids have been given opportunity and are too l

I'm so glad to see the outpouring of users who are downright happy to pay for this service. Ryan: you should add a payment option that lets people pay more than $9 per month. Let us specify the amount. I'd gladly pay more if it meant you

I don't think the multi-city approach is necessary. It seems to be more of a headache than anything else. Stack Overflow has a big enough following that they could hold a 2 day conference in SF, LA, Boston, or Seattle and it would likely

I'm definitely not "programming famous." My boss, Joel Spolsky, is though (I work for Fog Creek Software). I don't know Zed personally either. He was a bit skeptical about me doing this at first, but he was ultimately really cool about it

Huh? require is used quite a bit: exercises 12, 25, 43, 47, 48, 50, 52. Some exercises depend on sinatra, some depend on test/unit, some depend on stuff you write yourself.

Ah, I should fix that example. It's totally wrong. Nice catch! In hindsight, I probably should have used "Hello #{name}" style string interpolation in all of the examples since thats the idiomatic way of doing things. I was trying to expos

The point of The Hard Way methodology is to type everything out and understand what you're doing. Having said that, you could clone the git repository, remove the "linenos" option and run the Jekyll site locally.

I started off doing this to teach myself Ruby. I enjoyed the Python version so much and thought it would map pretty well since the languages are fairly similar. After about 15 exercises, I saw that it was actually coming out quite nicely an

Fog Creek has a product called Kiln, which is like Github, but is based on Mercurial. It's very polished and has lots of great features that focus on private repository management (but has public repos, too). It's free for up to 2 users.

Yup, pretty much spot on, except we have a dishwasher! The caterer is great about not repeating meals very often (we probably go 2-3 weeks before seeing the same thing twice). Most everything is healthy, there's always a vegetarian option,

I agree with replacing "Never edit your videos again" with "Never miss a moment again." On first glance, I understood the purpose of the app. But when I read "Never edit your videos again" I started to question my understanding. Made me t
