I think this misses the point. The division isn't within the government; it's between individuals. And I don't think the power of short messages is specific to the United States

I mean, if you look on the privacy.com website, the only 3rd-party request is Google Fonts. Personally, the privacy tradeoff is worth being able to pull a font from the cache, even though I understand that the same doesn't apply to eve

Holy cow. This feels so surreal. I don't think things will stop feeling this way, and I don't really want them too. I still can't believe the moon landing was only fifty years ago.

Tagging along, the TikTok algorithm adapts to which videos you skip. It's unfair to claim that the platform has poor quality content without spending at least some time browsing, much more than 5 minutes

Note also that if you skip a video quickly, TikTok will show fewer of that type of video, which I think is a fantastic feature

The technical barrier. Maybe I'm ignorant, but I think Chrome & Firefox would put up a much bigger fight than App/Play Store. The latter is already a walled garden.

A good rule of thumb: Centralization has the optimal best-case. Decentralization has the optimal worst-case. For example, Bitcoin, while robust and reliable, is slow. Discord, while sometimes down, is generally fast and featureful.
