I start off by saying "I work in IT for an investment bank", which usually ends up with bewildered looks. Then I say "I fix keyboards and mice for an investment bank", which usually ends up with some nervous laughs (some get it, some don't)

I maybe a little naive, but how different is divvyshot from something like flickr ? Doesn't flickr have private groups (i.e. sharing with just a few people) ? I must be missing something here.. :(

Nagios + Ganglia is what was used in my previous work place. Was a pretty darn neat setup considering the had hundreds (if not thousands) of server

Moreover lets not forget XSS as well. Need to be careful. Think if you're going to post an image URL, server will need to do some validation that its an actual image and then spit it inline

I'm still old school in that way. I use awstats: http://awstats.sourceforge.net/ I really should be using something more sophisticated. But to keep things simple, awstats is just fine.

I do use automated testing, but trying to get more on TDD. I do slap myself in the face when something's not unit tested though.

On your point 2, the one thing that I would add is to: 1. Try out the existing implementation (a little gap analysis with your idea) 2. Even though analysis from (1) above does not come out with much pros, the project might still be a viabl

Passion for the idea is important - but lets not forget execution as well. Ideas + passion alone does not necessarily guarantee success. Add excellent execution to it, and probability for success increases

Making long-distance plane travel shorter at a reasonable rate Long version: I live in London and home is in Malaysia, which is 13 hour flight. I would really really love an airline that can make that journey down to (about half) 6-8 hours

To think about it, knowing the person well might even be worse if you end up in a sticky situation. Not only have you just lost a friend, but your reputation as well. Moreover, chances are high that he/she will be in the same social circles
