This viewpoint as raganwald expressed it is too oversimplifying for my tastes. It's pretty .. well, wrong.. to say that all Google engineers are working on is putting ads on web pages. Similarly it's not true that a whole generation of pe

No they did not specifically fix this. What they did was fix the general problem that Google-bombs exploited by changing ranking to not be so easily influenced. Source: http://searchengineland.com/google-kills-bushs-miserable-fai...

Actually, this sandwich analogy is not as good as the library/book one. In this analogy, you are busy while you are making your sandwich (because you are putting it together from stuff you got from your fridge). In the library-with-free-del

Well, for one Google doesn't operate locally in every country. Moving into a given country comes with tradeoffs which Google surely weighs. Off the top of my head, I assume the decision to move into a country is a balancing act between thes

This was a huge frustration for me on 2.x. I'm glad they're suggesting that people insert fake activities to fix it. Here's an example -- from the homescreen, click a Music widget. The Music app opens and shows the song I was listening to.

This is organizing your information. You are part of the world. So it makes sense, no? It's really just Google Desktop, except with the assumption that you use cloud services instead of storing your data on your desktop now.

Yes. This was Google Buzz. The technology behind it was truly great (Salmon, Pubsubhubbub, and friends). It was federated. Everyone took a dump on it every chance they got, despite it being a technically very sound solution to the problem.

No -- you can't. You can lock people out of your project, but FLOSS doesn't mean everyone gets to play inside your project. The license guarantees anybody who doesn't like the way Google is doing things can take the code and start their own

You probably don't. The AOSP is hundreds of individual git repositories. android.kernel.org and the "repo" tool are the only sane way to deal with them.

Which is why Google Takeout exists. What other company is posturing this way and also lets you backup (soon to be?) all of your data? Account lockouts due to TOS violations are often cases in which Google's hands are tied legally. Very few
