I'm surprised this feature wasn't already built in, considering that Web Workers has been around as an API for years now.

I think it is unrelated to their mass collection of data. But I also think this is an argument for why people put up with these services. It's not that they accept privacy infringement, it's that they are willing to put up with it

It's not at all easier, that's why workers want to unionize in the first place. US companies are afraid of unions because the power accumulated by the union makes it harder for the company to deal with workers.

Not a chance. That is who they are. The only good site in the Gawker network is Lifehacker. At least they still remain objective, to say nothing about Deadspin and Jezebel. I personally hope unionizing accelerates their decline into insolve

For every "rule", like the bystander effect, there's an exception. You, my friend, are the exception. You don't see the logic because you are that "someone else" that people expect is going to help.

Punctual and inefficient with time sounds like the US too. Must be the shared English heritage.

I have a similar experience. I also started out with perl in high school. When I started going to University, I sought out a tech job to provide myself with some supplemental income. Started out as an intern (this is where the luck came in)

I think that he inexplicably went back shows how hard it is to quit. They are facing immense pressure from family and management to not quit, and working long hours like that drains them of the mental resources they need to resist.

This makes me wonder why they're asking one guy to do the work of two or three people. If it's really that simple, and doesn't require specialized skills, there are plenty of archaeology and anthropolgy grads out there, reali

When did Miami get that high?? I grew up in an immigrant family of four in Miami. One, we never paid rent anywhere close to that, and two, we wouldn't have been able to afford it, at all. Not the Miami I remember.

Looks like the OP's linked example does not use this, since the sort reported that it took longer when using web workers than when it didn't use web workers, at least a full second longer. I wonder how much performance would impro

Don't worry, with the kind of shaming we're seeing in these comments, homophobic jokes and plain homophobia will be going underground sooner than you think!

You would stand a good chance of waiting a lot longer to get that work done, but as mrcold said, testing a solution doesn't cost much. If you're willing to wait for the solution to a problem, getting work done through code exercis

The thing is, I have an nVidia card and ACU doesn't even run on it. It feels like they are not only trying to deter people from buying AMD, but that they are also trying to deter people from buying lower tier nVidia cards. I have to ge

I'm not on board with the other reply to this comment, but to me stoicism means the ability to handle stress better, staying calm through it rather than getting overwhelmed. Mindfulness helps with this by giving you awareness of your t
