I'm from WNY, I was forged in the snow. Nearly every problem people have driving in snow is a skill issue, the rest is hills. Subaru does do a very good job with the symmetrical AWD, letting you feel overconfident and forget that you h

During the part of my life when I lived in an intensely snowy climate, I never had a vehicle with four-wheel drive, and never had any issues. Four-wheel drive is a crutch to get you into situations your brakes can't get you out of.

Because Apple is a rare non-shittified company and people are apt to let them do whatever they want, in fear of upsetting the balance that keeps Apple products pleasant to use.

To be pedantic, that wasn't an insinuation, it was an accusation. I also believe it is a false accusation, since Apple has many happy customers and employees on HN, but he is within the letter of the law.

Usually those exist for a single contract length, and after that you are free to engage however you'd like. That's essentially a headhunting fee and is valid. That arrangement existing in perpetuity is immoral, and that's wha

That's not quite true, if the user clicked that link in the last 7 days, Apple wants a cut. That's still ridiculous, and it's still an external platform .

There is simply no way around the fact that Apple demanding a cut of sales on an external platform is ridiculous. Steam does not do this. Google does not do this. This would be absolutely absurd for anyone else in any market to do, and this

A lot of it is sales-side, but so many good tools could literally be a single page with a form, not multi-minute flows. Everything is a sales pitch, not useful.

I don't know the actual numbers on that, but I do know that stationary storage lasts much longer than e.g. EV batteries, since there are no weight restrictions, so they're cycled more gently, temps are better, they can be kept in

I kill animals to eat. I have zero moral qualms about taking lesser life to feed myself, and my primary goal is the animal's quality of life and painlessness of death. I guarantee you that I kill fewer animals than you.

I've killed the majority of my own meat this past year. That was one cow, two sheep, two deer, and a few dozen rabbits. An acre of soy takes orders of magnitudes more carnage.
