Interesting to see where Bill goes for news. I may not be Bill Gates (I certainly don't have his bank balance), but people interested in unbiased news should check out the "No Agenda" podcast at http://noagendashow.com Dvorak and Curry m

In theory I kind of agree with this, but reality is that most programmers never "master" the trade. Abstractions that help people get there job done by simplifying the task are useful. Remember that not everyone is writing the Linux kerne

Learning a C language (i.e. C/C++/Java) is great advice for increasing your programming knowledge. You'll learn how software works at almost it's lowest level. I wouldn't advise learning some architectures assembly language unless you rea

100% agree with this, less code = less maintenance. Very few people truly understand this and why it's important.

Some good points, but I disagree with the what not to build section. If you have a great idea for one of these that is truly innovative, build it. Just because you'll have large competitors shouldn't stop you. Now if your idea isn't that

I have a list of things to stay away from indeed, but it's due to my own sanity of being. For example, without GC exceptions are almost always going to cause leaks without the team being all C++ experts. If I was designing in Java excepti

I completely agree. While C++ certainly isn't perfect, those of us that write real code that is used and maintained day to day can be very productive. While I know who most of the people in the article are and respect their contributions t

That isn't true: Xbox/PlayStation/Nintendo control what software can be run as well. They always point to the crappy titles that the Atari 2600 ended up with and claim quality control. Not that I necessarily disagree with you though
