Google Apps use Closure, and after taking a peek at the source of Microsoft's online office apps, they appear to be using Script# or a similar C# to JS tool, as I see lots of references to namespaces, and lots of calls to dispose() met

That's a good question; I didn't try it. On the bright side, if you don't mind diving one layer below the surface, the code for react-router-redux is short, well written, and easy to understand: https://github.com&

HN (and perhaps SV) might be a bit of an echo chamber that doesn't reflect industry overall. In most decently sized cities, there seem to be plenty of development jobs available that make heavy use of solid software engineering and arc

The AdWords team could have chosen any of a fairly large number of technologies to develop their new front end, but they chose the Dart version of Angular 2 to do so. CircleCI chose to use ClojureScript and Om instead of using React directl

You can use Redux with Angular 2, and it works quite well! The dev tools work the way you'd expect them to. Webpack hot module loading works well Angular 2 as well. I agree that JSX is easier to debug. The Augury[1] Chrome extension se

It appears that the new version of the new AdWords UI is created using Dart and Angular 2: http://news.dartlang.org/2016/03/the-new-adwords-ui-uses-dar... I'm not a heavy AdWords user, so I can't say for

So far I haven't seen any indication that they plan to stop developing the full .NET Framework. I'm sure some parts of it will stop growing - things like WinForms and WebForms probably aren't going to see a lot of attention i

I believe that a huge amount of SOA in production wouldn't qualify as microservices - especially enterprise SOA. Heck, I'd bet a lot of enterprise SOA is just a giant crufty monolith with a bunch of its functionality exposed via

As the author mentions, it's not that microservices are necessarily bad - just that they're too often used when they're not the appropriate solution for the problem at hand. I feel as though about 80% of the programming blog

Rather than looking at it as a language that needs an IDE to be bearable, it might be more helpful to look at it as a language that is most pleasant to use in concert with well build tools. I look at it similarly to the way I look at Smallt

Interesting. I've used C# heavily at my last couple of jobs and it has all been server side web work - mostly back ends of web apps, but also services and microservices of various kinds. From talks with coworkers, the impression I'

I can see it working in a statically types language with macros - maybe Scala or Template Haskell? I'm not 100% sure if their metaprogramming is capable of this. Ideally, you could define a type like FileNameString to be a string that

Wouldn't Apple see manufacturing as a cost center? The act of manufacturing costs Apple money, but on its own doesn't generate any revenue. Apple probably sees design, marketing, and sales as its profit centers. I don't know

The catch is that using NPM and CommonJS modules for front end packages makes it so that tools like Rollup and the Closure compiler can't do the kinds of optimizations they are capable of. The code we ship is doing a lot of runtime dep

You might be underestimating how much inertia the Angular name has in larger enterprise dev shops. They're still creating new projects in Angular 1.x, and will eventually starting using Angular 2 just because it is called Angular.

It's usually not easy to compare across industries, though. A software company with $1M revenue could easily end up with higher net profit than a restaurant with $3M revenue.
