Maybe Java? It's everywhere, can fulfill just about any role you throw at it, but isn't really the world's absolute best tool for most of those roles.

I think at least some of it is the Windows on Windows stuff to allow 64 bit machines to run both 32 and 64 bit software. Weren't the 32 but versions of Win7 about half the size of the 64 bit ones? There's still a lot of size growt

Looks like an interesting product, Tim. I've always enjoyed Pascal so I'll give your trial version a try.

I hope we don't still have to make IE11 work in 2107, but considering how often some enterprises seem to keep ancient software around, it just might happen. :)

Depends on your definition of terrible, I suppose. I never feel more alive than when I go for a walk on a crisp, sunny -20 degree morning. I used to get mornings like that quite often in Ottawa, and I've missed them the past couple of

I used to have that feeling. Reading The Shallows[1] made me stop and think about what might be causing it, and forced me to think about what I might do about it. My solution was to drastically cut back my internet use most of the time I&

I also noticed a ton of Windows phones in the latest House of Cards season. I'm not sure why they'd have used so many if it weren't a paid product placement. The phones were much more numerous in HoC than they are in the real

Over time, I've come to notice that once any online forum reaches a certain critical mass of programmers, nearly any mention of a specific programming language will devolve into a flamewar about that language. I find it frustrating, bu

I don't think you deserve to be attacked for implying that about WhatsApp. You're right, in that the truth is that in the vast majority of cases for the vast majority of cases, programming language doesn't matter all that muc

Avalonia is a decently nice cross platform C# + XAML GUI toolkit. It doesn't cover every use case WPF does, of course, but I've still found it pleasant to use.

I agree to a certain extent. There are times when I've seen great beauty in something as mundane as pre-generics Java, when someone put together a well factored set of loosely couple objects to accomplish a task. Other times, though, b

I feel the same way about Electron, because I don't like shipping subpar applications to users. I've found the development experience using TypeScript and React to be fairly pleasant, though. I know some people gripe about JSX

Another reply to your post added the quote. I sincerely hope that posting such a quote isn't cause for a ban - since it's pulled directly from the film, and does a good job of emphasizing the point you're trying to make.
