Lost power steering at highway speeds in my '91 Corolla a couple of decades back. Didn't notice on the highway (belt just made a loud pang and I thought "What the heck was that?"), but as soon as I took an exit and had

You have a good point. Thanks for pointing this out. It hadn't occurred to me, but I think it's obvious now that I think about it.

You have a misunderstanding. SteamOS is essentially Arch Linux. Edit: Misunderstanding is mine. I think you guys are discussing something else. I was trying to assert that SteamOS is GNU/Linux, unlike the others.

The steam deck is essentially a laptop (and I think made it through FCC on that basis). Plug in a USB hub, HDMI, keyboard, mouse, and I'm all set. I actually bought an extra one because now that the mobile device ecosystem is locked do

Yes, I have an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ chip with memory set to allocate 96 gigs to the GPU and 32 gigs to the CPU. I got it last week, and I've been running gpt-oss-120b at q5 at 40t/s. I run Linux with llama.cpp compiled against ROCm 7

You're correct, and I'm generally in favor of the right to die. I watched a documentary where they interviewed a bunch of people who attempted suicide and talked to them about the entire experience and mental state. Out of the may

You're accusing the poster of shilling. That's against site rules, but aside from that it makes no sense in this context -- the post talks about the advantages of HTMX versus Datastar.

It's more like the mouse saying fuck you to the trap holding the cheese. It's not that the mouse isn't grateful for the free cheese. It's just the mouse understands the surrounding context.

Wine is great for running the old versions of stuff that weren't shackled to the cloud. Adobe and MS Office versions from ~2013 or so work great, and are more than enough of an escape hatch when native tools don't quite cut it. A

Seems to be because the definition is arbitrarily shaped to fit the agendas of whoever is writing the definition. UPFs seem like the screen time of the 2020s -- an overly vague and mostly useless definition borne out of hysteria around a re

I'm no stranger to building boxes or running servers, but I've run a couple of different Synology NAS over the past 15 years. My estimate is that if I were to put together my own system, it would probably take several days and cos

This comment is a fantastic study on how to adversarially read press releases like this. I suspect it's exactly correct: likely all photo IDs were leaked, but they decided to cast it as a small number by implicitly comparing it to the
