I've heard a bit about metal detecting in the UK from a relative who is into it. I assume the laws aren't too far off how it works in Ireland. I know that finding hoards of 1000+ year old coins is completely par for the course and

'Carrier locked' phones are illegal here, and were uncommon before then. Much easier to reset these devices and move them on.

The worst symptom of this imo is the inclusion of ink traps in digital fonts. I think they look awful, especially when blown up to poster size.

I don't know if this is the same company, but this thing called Nordic Spirit is being heavily marketed in the UK. It's just snus, changed just enough to get past the 1992 ban on oral tobacco products. About half of my YT adverts

This is cool, but the shorelines are very low detail. A few towns in the UK are off in the sea, meanwhile Greenland and Northern Canada are hogging all the vertices. It looks as though the Mercator projection is already being accounted for

This is all very webdesign-y and might be good for a less techy audience, but tbh I think the original article with its notebook format provides a lot more useful information https://hinnefe2.github.io/python/tools/

This is part of why Boeing shut down the idea back in the 90s iirc. But I think this company is not actually aiming to develop an airliner at all, it just makes for pretty pictures. Their demonstrator is being built for the USAF (along with

Something I find interesting about computer fonts and stuff is how much they remain the same over time, down to the bit. In phylogenetics, the passing of time is measured by the molecular clock - the accumulated mutations that are constantl

This reminds me of the study of ancient greek vase painters, who are usually known only by a place name or subject, even when we have hundreds of examples of their work and tracts have been written on their style and influence. https:/

I believe eye tracking systems have been used for weapons targeting in F-35s for about 10 years. They wouldn't be using it for that usecase if it wasn't pretty accurate

What does it matter if it's calibrated on earth? If the problem is the antenna pattern, influence of the rover itself, etc, why can't it be calibrated with the exact duplicate of the rover we have?

I couldn't see Brave being able to counter, say, the recent YouTube anti-adblock push as quickly as the open source community did. I could see that kind of stunt becoming more common as Google tries to nail the coffin shut and deny the
