In that case, LLMs are full on debt-machines.

Agreed. In the end the use of these kinds of tools falls under their responsibility. If I were to drive a car that 90% of the time goes the opposite of where I am steering, I would definitely blame the manufacturer.

Can you get money back with AI if they make mistakes? They are more prone to mistakes especially on larger scales in my opinion.

The non S/W folks are currently all using it because it's free to a certain degree. There's no chance in hell they'll be paying for it. So the only other way for the AI companies to make money out of it is to add Ads to

Exactly. Even if outside of all that JJ would be an exact Git copy...undo alone is worth using it.

I mean, undo alone is a killer JJ feature. Sure, you can always somehow undo any git operation if you dig deep enough, but the ease of use on the JJ side without question.

Hot take, but the amount that people try to go and make an LLM be less sycophantic and still have it be sycophantic in round-about ways is astonishing. Just admit that the over-glorified text-prediction engines are not what they promised to

But wouldn't the same hold true for Anthropic? Claude 5 Sonnet wouldn't imply that it is larger than Claude 4 Sonnet. The numbering there doesn't mean anything. WITHIN the numbering the sonnet, opus etc mean things, maybe, bu

So, 3 arcane barely used words in daily conversation are better than OpenAI's 4, 4o, 5, etc?

▲

How about just calling it 4.large, 4.medium, etc.? Is it that difficult? Sure, an opus is supposed to be large, but a sonnet is not restricted in size but rather a style of poem. So sonnet and opus mean nothing when compared to each other.
281.
▲
by

Exactly. Doesn't mean that OpenAI has a better or worse naming. They all don't convey anything out of the gate. 4.large, 4.medium, 4.fast, 4. reasoning etc. or something similar would probably be better.
282.
▲

Sure. I wasn't arguing that OpenAI's naming is better. It is way worse. But Anthropic also doesn't have a sure-fire naming scheme there either.

I mean yeah, but to many non-native speakers, sonnet and opus don't immediately convey size or complexity of the models.

So, I see this got downvoted. Instead of just downvoting, I would prefer to have a counter-argument. Honestly. I am on the skeptic side of LLM, but would not mind being turned to the other side with some solid arguments.

The longer the context and the discussion goes on, the more it can get confused, especially if you have to refine the conversation or code you are building on. Remember, in its core it's basically a text prediction engine. So the more

Flooding the context also means increasing the likelihood of the LLM confusing itself. Mainly because of the longer context. It derails along the way without a reset.

So, more tokens means better but at the same time more tokens means it distracts itself too much along the way. So at the same time it is an improvement but also potentially detrimental. How are those things beneficial in any capacity? What

I personally am self-hosting. Going anywhere else that is central again would just shift the shit-pile somewhere else. At least with self-hosting I know that my code is not used for AI training.

Man pages are close enough to OpenBSD. Httpd is there, but renamed to obhttpd. There are some differences between PF and relayd for example, but not too difficult to switch.

It seems apparent in this thread that any remote criticism of AI results in downvotes. Yes, the article might have some wording issues, but for an operating system project to choose to not allow AI written code for a product that is inheren

AI is on track to use more energy than Bitcoin this year. And Netflix and others are activety trying to reduce their usage, whereas all I see on the AI side right now is people scrambling to use more for bigger models in the that at some po

I am 99% percent sure that for most of your use-cases Common Lisp has a way to do it and/or is flexible enough to change the language so that it is possible. You are talking about one of THE most malleable languages to exist. Literally
