All of the top grossing free-to-play games are like that. DragonVale used to occupy the top spot, and is similar. The current #7 top-grossing app is Slotomania. I like to think of all these free-to-play games like Slotomania. They're addict

Thanks, this is a nice summary of music theory. I wish the font were more readable... though I like how it conveys a casual feel.

I've been curious about inDinero as well, but they don't seem to have a free trial option. I once signed up, but forgot about it, and now it won't even let me poke around the UI without enabling billing: http://i.imgur.com/71poC.png Any s

I am a fan of round numbers for pricing. Of course you want to make sure you have a profit margin, but would something like this work? Qty: 25 for $30, 50 for $50, 100 for $80 (Best Value!) Or FREE shipping on all orders. Qty: 25 for $35, 5

Charge per 0.25-week increments? As long as you hold up your end of the bargain by providing enough value, they'll be happy to recommend you to a friend, or request your services again. Later on, you can charge for larger increments while r

This is very slick. I especially love how the themes (View > Themes) update as you hover over them! It's a great way to preview your the color settings for your editor. I wish more UIs had this sort of live preview.

Two important points I learned was: 1) charge by the week, and 2) charge by the value you will be providing, rather than how much your time is worth . Charging by the week allows you to not have to keep track of what's billable and what's

Awesome stuff. I still have a desktop computer from 2001 that I haven't gotten rid off. (Too lazy!) It'd be nice if future logic boards could be melted down / dissolved in some way. Imagine biodegradable (or easily recyclable) tablets. You

I spent some time using Windows 8 at the local Costco, and agree with most of Nielsen's points. In case you need alternative ways to exit an app, try: Alt + F4. This old-school method still works! Hit the Windows Key on your keyboard. Treat

Car & 401K is a terrible idea for generating cash. Keep your day job (or find a day job) and build apps on the side until you think you've found a winner. Putting money into marketing is a difficult question. I feel like it works if y

I feel bad for the couple featured in the article, but it looks like they didn't bootstrap their business very wisely. They sold their car, cashed in their 401K, and bought unnecessary hardware: When the newest iPhone came out at the en

Working from home is great! You also cut down on commuting time, which can be a big source of unhappiness in your life: http://www.economist.com/blogs/gulliver/2011/06/perils-commu... Also, a +1 on the pomodoro technique. It helps me get

This is awesome. One bit of feedback: It'd be cool to have some fixed area on the screen where you are showing the current chord (in a big font), while the video is playing. In the Super Mario example: http://www.soundslice.com/yt/Y6ti5f-L

Try Pimsleur. You might be able to borrow some CDs from your local library. Pimsleur's method is great, and helps me get the basics of a language very quickly. I have tried the Rosetta Stone demos, and decided that it wasn't worth the price

Clearly there are pluses & minuses to each path. But if a young student is interested in doing a startup, he/she should definitely try (while young). It is no less of a "real world" experience than it would be if you worked at Google. I
