If you're familiar with Ruby/Rails, I don't see any reason to switch. They're both good large frameworks. As you said, yes Django may sometimes feel a bit less "magic", due to Python's "explicit is b

It's "incredibly simple to use " only when the asynchronous use case you describe is desirable. Consider this very basic use case: my mom and I want to be always able to call/interrupt each other. - Skype fits the bill:

For your use case, I have no doubt :) . For my casual editing needs, though, I'm happy with a simple(r) single-window mode. Nowhere to get lost, everything in one place.

Totally agreed that Skype is a different beast than Gimp/Inkscape. Putting aside the discussion on Skype, I was answering your "I have no idea why one could find single-window more usable" from my point of view, that is, a

I do subjectively find single-window apps more usable, and think they are objectively more approachable. Talk from yesterday on a thread about the Skype UI: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12086898

Got it about the customization. But while it has a benefit to you as a probable "power user", it has a cost: beginners don't get it. They don't understand why part of skype is in a windows while another lives in another.

I meant global system-wide hotkeys that work even when the application is not focused, not JavaScript-event-based page hotkeys. In the stable (Qt-based) Skype for example I bind Ctrl+Alt+PgUp to answer a call, and Ctrl+Alt+PgDown to stop

I for one consider separate windows a nuisance. I like the new consolidated "all in one" UI, just like I liked when browsers moved to tabs. Honest question: what's the added value of separate windows (to be precise, separatin
