If new tiles are inserted randomly, you have to defend adequately against the worst case. Avoid-death always has a very good expected value, relatively. So minimax is probably right in many cases and close enough to being right in most cas

Do you have a source for this? I've only heard this said on HN and I doubt that it is significantly dangerous to be rich.

These are not real hurdles. The whole point of education is that kids learn the things you describe. If a kid builds a microscope, takes orange peel, and recognises that they don't see anything because it's opaque, that's gre

This is actually a good method: by using this method (avoiding up and favouring down), you tend to cluster 2s and 4s towards the top while larger numbers percolate downwards (and towards the middle). If you encourage this natural tendency,

If you were using this method, it would be more typical to give the remainder as a fraction. Student probably hasn't studied decimal numbers to an extent that this would be relevant at this stage.

Despite claiming you don't understand the gain, you just said it: students gain a more complete understanding of how multiplication and subtraction are related to division, which is the primary goal of this stage of math education.

I agree with you on this point, but asking a lecturer to provide slides and notes creates a lot of work for them. It's a difficult task to make one set to an adequate standard, so I was assuming you would use one set for both jobs (a

My suggestion is the same: obfuscating what's in the exam does not benefit the students but makes yourself seem more important to their success.

If the slides do not convey the material that is being taught, then the slides are useless. Students generally do refer to slides after lectures, and usually end up staring at a load of incomprehensible nonsense. The instructor-expert can a
