I started doing pen plots with my 3d printer, and quickly realized while fun, it isn't that great at the job! So I am now printing and building a dedicated pen plotter I found on Thinkiverse (Drawbot), which is the first mechatronic m

It's all in the name of efficiency. While efficiency is good to some degree, it comes at a cost of robustness. If you are working at 100% capacity, if anything goes wrong you are screwed!

Isn't there still the follow-me router? I find that more convenient than auto routing since I generally have an idea of where I want to route, but it's nice having to computer work out the details

It would be nice if there was some sort of standard like USB for magnetic charge cables! I do like the standard USB c charger that I can use for my laptop, phone, and switch, but there are certainly clear advantages to magnetic disconnect

That sounds like a scene from the office and I grimaced inside from the thought of someone clapping for me! Any of these forced fun activities are generally not actually fun. One of my managers used to sneak around and whisper to people to

That's a good way of thinking about it. When I was a kid I remember hearing "imagine reading everything you write down to grandma" or "read on the morning news". I try to keep that in mind to this day.

If it makes you feel any better my solid "hardwood" workbench from Gladiator (purchased at Lowes) I use as a standing desk also has some dings and dents! I also figure it's part of the charm.

I am not a scientist so I can't pretend to understand it too well, but here is an example of a paper about it: https://www.academia.edu/17195945/O_2_pH_Multisensor_Based_o... The dye was on a small paper disk, not

The coolest application of an FFT I implemented was for a custom oxygen sensor for a wearable breath measuring device. The sensor would flash a blue light at about 40 kHz, and there was a phosphorescent dye which would flash orange with a

Yes it is pretty heavily top-down since the programs are so huge! I did have opportunities to work on some very interesting projects and get to travel to remote tests sites which was fun at the beginning of my career, but I'm not sure

I started my career in the defense industry and I try to avoid it now. On a philosophical level, I wasn't totally comfortable designing weapon systems with the express purpose of killing people. But also on a practical level, the defe

Not all influencers are models... I believe there is money to be had peddling all sorts of misinformation. People who get caught up in this stuff are targeted for all sorts of stuff.

Not op, but I can't imagine ecs being cheaper than eks since ecs itself is free (you pay for fargate either way) Ecs is pretty simple but does not have the large mindshare that kubernetes or nomad have.

I was imagining having physical robots (as opposed to a simulation) with some sort of API to the motors, sensors, etc and you could upload code to to compete in some sort of game. Maybe even set up a webcam and stream the matches!
