Musk has said before that he wants people to buy a Tesla not because it is an electric car but because it is a really good car. He will keep adding features to it that make it an excellent car. Tesla may pivot to other products but not IMO

I'm not sure. In my experience, you have traffic situations where everyone around you is trying to weave in and out through the smallest gaps. The car will need to get really good at predicting behavior or drive so conservatively that

It seems to me that most of your doubts stem from the financing side of things and not really from the technical ones. That's a valid point. From a technical POV, I don't think this is anywhere near unicorn territory. In fact, I t

A plane doesn't undergo stress anywhere near what a rocket goes through and we understand all the science behind it very well.

We have a lot more experience building planes of various types that can fly. This is well understood science. The difficulty with rockets are the razor thin margins and the extreme conditions it needs to handle.

Even in the case of rockets, once you work out all the kinks, you can get very high reliability. When was the last time you heard a Soyuz rocket fail or one of ULA's launch vehicles.

I don't agree. Faster travel is always better - whatever the mode of transportation. Once you hit a certain speed and price point, it will radically change the lifestyle of people. For example, the hyperloop with 30 min travel time bet

How "good" he is has nothing to do with his fondness for reading. Everything points to Gates being a guy who just likes to read. Are you going to be equally suspicious to learn that billionaire Zuckerberg likes to play video games

In the case of github, they can and have taken down/blocked repos that foreign govt have found objectionable. So its not the odd offensive word here and there. Luckily, git makes it easy to have multiple copies of a repo lying around a

There is definitely a use-case for being able to play wherever without being tied to a location even when at home. Plus the fact that you don't need to install anything on the client machines.

Fair enough. I had not realized that NH could send data at a faster rate when bandwidth was available. I wondered about the point of having 8 gb storage when you had such low speeds - it would take years to download.

I'm a little wary of having a 100% bullet-proof tool given its potential for abuse. I also feel that anonymity should incur a certain cost. It shouldn't be as simple as simply firing up tor if you want to leak launch codes. It sho

Does this mean that if agencies from different countries get into an arms-race trying to take control of the network in such a way, it would actually make tor stronger?

How about compilers having a way for us to tell it that a particular function must not be removed? It seems silly that we have to come up with hacks to work around the compiler.

So how do calls between leaders of different countries work? Have all of them agreed upon using the encryption system? Or perhaps they have equipment that can choose which encryption system to use depending on who they are talking to?
