There must be so many people who give up on the "fire hydrant" ones. In my country they're all underground. The knobbly ones they expect you to recognize as such are a distinctly American phenomenon.

Maybe we could even go full Hitchhiker's Guide and design an animal that wants to be eaten. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HLy27bK-wU

In the Jobs years it was because the person at the tob intrinsically gave a shit about making a good thing. But you're right, it certainly seems that's the kind of game Cook is playing. Better than Windows, but no better, and keep

I can't wait to experience this new experience in my clipboard experience. Every time I get upset about the decline of MacOS, Microsoft manages to cheer me right up again.

I don't even like "We" in UI messages. "We couldn't find that site." "We're just updating your computer." Perhaps I'm just an old fogey, but passive voice feels like the only right choice: &

I no longer use header files when I can help it. They haven't made sense since 1980. I have a Python script that reads my C++ source and writes all the headers for me. C++ is so much nicer to write when you don't have to do the co

I came here to quote the same passage, except in my case, to agree with it. It struck me as an excellent description of how it feels for me now to pick up a book, at least before I manage to stay with it long enough to settle into it and ex

Amazing reply, thanks so much! Re: GitHub, you're right, it is kind of bad. I'm proud of some contributions I've made to other people's projects but you can't pin a PR. My own repositories are largely old or experim

Thing is, there have been gaps. I've sometimes taken weeks or months between jobs to travel, work on personal projects, play music, etc. Does this mean I'm bad at programming?

Thank you! Github is at the top-right but could be more prominent. How did you manage to find non-UK companies that will hire UK people? I find most remote US roles say "remote (US only)", and similar for other countries.

Hey, this feels like a valuable insight. Thank you. The CV would be a lot shorter with only the 3D graphics stuff, but maybe that's not a problem? I'll try creating a separate graphics developer CV and see what happens. I've

Thanks for the reply! I'm definitely guilty of thinking like a dev. Built what the PM wanted, they liked it, I did good, right? D'oh. I guess I should have been keeping notes of those business figures all this time. I'll def

Thanks very much for taking a look! I appreciate the suggestion of adding more "soft" human bits about me. As a dev my natural reaction to team-player stuff on CVs is "anyone can say they're a team player, who cares?&quo

Hey, thanks for the response. I'm in the UK so not sure how much the US situation is contributing, though there might be knock-on effects. I appreciate your feedback about what details to add and about that most recent point. I agree,

Not OP, but I use Parallels on M2 and gaming is a bit hit-or-miss. I'd say maybe 80% of games work flawlessly, and 20% have some sort of issue ranging from the annoying to the unplayable. For non-gaming, Parallels is extremely solid. I

Cog is great. I use it all the time in my personal projects. It really shines in C++. Some uses I've found for it: * Generate long literal lists, with less tedium and fewer bugs: snprintf(buf, sizeof buf, "%f %f %f %f\n&
