Some labor laws are pretty strict, where if you treat them like an employee, they are an employee. This is common in the US and companies have to be really careful, otherwise a contractor can come after them and impose a pretty big financia

Restricted to a specific country isn't a huge negative IMO. Sometimes hiring internationally is really complicated and untenable for a small company.

One thing that bothers me about a lot of the job posts lately is they are not including salaries, even when required by law in the states they are hiring in.

I don't think it's 10:1 volume, maybe weight. "Don't need to last more than a few days" well, maybe not, but they will be used for a while absolutely.

Yah this table is awful. But it is $14 I guess. Lol.

That's good for the top of it, what about the bottom, on the cement? If someone spills water, or mops the floor, it will get damaged very easily. Silly idea IMO - metal framed beds are extremely durable.

It's because if they get wet at all they are destroyed.

What you're saying is correct, but oh boy have I worked on Django apps that have had awful security issues because of this. "look, all my endpoints are there, user A must only be able to reset their own password... right? ;)"

Python apps using popular frameworks (not all frameworks) are generally (not always) easy to scale. The app itself is mostly just "spawn another instance somewhere" - storage and sessions and all that can be complex, but that&#x

Agreed, showing things on a non-log scale seems to skew it significantly.

I thought about just writing a text post but didn't figure I could add anything beyond the title. I am not sure what weight there is with including "Show HN" or not, apologies.

HN companies have a history of breaking labor laws - I have noticed several times that posts hiring in NYC for example do not include salary ranges, which is required by law. It is not surprising.

The YC portfolio is full of unethical behavior like you said, but HN is full of "temporarily embarrassed founders" so you won't get much sympathy here with these types of comments. Good on you for bringing this up!

This is still the thing today for many people in trades. I know at least a handful of people who have been at their company for 10+ years, including my father, who works in the trades. Not an unheard of thing - tech is just immature, I thin

I never said it was the norm, but I would think it would be a good sign here if they gave two months. I suspect they will give something like two weeks when this shakes out.

They backtracked, and are now offering some severance, but did not specify how much.

Yeah this is quite ridiculous. Even at very high salaries (no one makes these at Flexport, FYI) you're talking about a few million dollars to make this right (2 months severance).

Well, I know of a few big tech companies on the east coast do this so that they can attract higher-level devs and then say after the super-long interview process "sorry, you're actually a mid-level dev" or even try and convin

Maintenance is more important than sharpening - and maintenance should be done almost every time you use the knife and should just take a minute.

I think people with learning disabilities and people who do not understand the tone they are expressing over the internet can still contribute positively to conversations, they just need a little bit of grace.
