A programmer that leaves an easter egg in some critical part of the software really isn't worth his salt. For the very first thing, it would be way too obvious (no longer qualifying as an easter egg), and second, for the reasons you me

I'm split here, on one hand there's (n)curses already available on ruby, on the other hand, you need an additional library for it. Any other benefit one should be aware of?

In addition to what has been said (power requirements/efficiency), signal propagation becomes a problem; you may not reach enough of the CPU die during a clock cycle.

I second this. I'm using Terminal.app for years now, dabbled with iTerm from time to time, but just couldn't see any advantage; since Terminal.app allows me to save window layouts and customize colors - so far, it's all I ne

Meh, as someone who is almost constantly fighting to keep on top of my things to do, having tried out various methodic approaches, and slowly, but surely getting better at it – this sentence _immediately_ disqualifies this approach/ap

My TL;DR: Multi-process architectures may suck on machines where you don't have enough CPU/Cores for your workload; or the design of your software requires a lot more processes than common sense would dictate.

That's strange. I built one last year, and it's far from being a nightmare. I also followed the builds from the site you mentioned, as best as I could in my country (local dealers are cheaper, or on-par to amazon around here) - th

I think the generated avatar only serves as a 'honeypot', so to speak. A colleague of mine provided me with some interesting information in a discussion quite a while ago: His company a few years back provided text-only chatrooms

This is why I use a local proxy (Though any AdBlock of course will work almost equally well). Blocking load.sumome.com will help here.

On Safari, I prefer Adblock without the 'Plus' ( https://getadblock.com ) not least because of the shady stuff unearthed around ABP (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adblock_Plus#Controversy_over_a..

It seems that once again, running services on non-standard ports where possible might have payed off. Off to patching. Or rather, wait for eventual patches. But you know what interests me the most about the whole thing? Theo de Raadts reac

I'd say the time spent looking it up (and maybe creating an alias/script) is less than typing it verbosely each time. I don't see 'betty whats my ip address' as a valid alternative to 'ip addr list'. And i

Other than being fun; I can't quite see the benefit of making my shell more verbose. I'm sure I am not the only one who can get by with the regular commands through mnemonics. And to further my point; if this was such a good idea,

As much as I love HN, the UI is clearly geared towards a list of links, not text such as lengthy comments – these are harder to read. Granted, not unreadable and with proper paragraphs done by the author good enough, but not quite optimal a

All these tiny board SoC's are fine and dandy, but as long as they do not have a better I/O (i.e. more bandwidth, read gigabit ethernet speeds) than the RPi; there's no real advantage IMO. * You can already output HD with
