I've only recently come across it myself. When I find the time to set up bookmarks and a low-maintenance ad block script I think uzbl may become my favorite browser as well. (Embedding uzbl in emacs would also be quite handy for in-frame we

Have you see Uzbl? http://uzbl.org/ Their tagline is "web interface tools which adhere to the unix philosophy". Uzbl is WebKit, and very little else. Highly script-able and customize-able.

For what it's worth, I'm not sure how to pronounce "squiry". I would have guessed "skwer-e", but that sounds unlike most English words I know. Reading this page, maybe "squire-e"? "s-queer-e" (as in s-query)? It's not even that I couldn't

I'm not sure that Ms. Trunk's biography is especially relevant to her argument here, but that's not it. She's been very public and candid about her personal life (quite possibly overly so), if you want to look into it.

I don't think I would have foreseen this circumstance either, but googleserver.com would have been much better than 1e100.net for the reasons I just mentioned in another comment: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3341017 1e100 has a lot

> Once you know that 1e100.net is Google you never have to look it up again. Actually, you should be careful about that. There is malware floating around that connects to 1el00.net, le100.net, etc. (replacing the numeral 1 with the lett

And Royce was ultimately advocating an iterative method (rather than a strict waterfall), not unlike most agile methods today, although his cycles were much larger. If one is interested in software development methodology, I strongly recomm

I sympathize. It can be hard to cover all the browser/platform options. I'm still getting the scroll bar. There may be other reasons as well, but it looks like your header image[1] is 1016 pixels wide. I tried reloading without cache, but

I see what you did here with the polling options (once I realized that andys627 was also the original poster). That's a pretty clever way to emulate a poll on HN without polling options. But be aware that no one but you can see the number o

Just so you know, the content of that page is frustratingly slightly too wide to display on my 1024-pixel-wide netbook screen. (Using Chromium/Chrome on Linux, with Helvetica, it comes out to 1009 pixels.) This means (a) I have horizontal s

Org-mode is what finally converted me to being an emacs user. I'd been searching for a lightweight, console/cli-mode outliner/task-manager when it occurred to me "surely emacs has something for this". It did, of course. For several weeks I

Not to be dense, but are you saying it's a pleasant surprise or that the USPTO shouldn't be doing this? EDIT: For what it is worth, the USPTO has a mission statement at http://www.uspto.gov/web/menu/intro.html . This isn't clearly within t

FWIW, I happen to be within walking distance of the USPTO. I was going to offer to post pictures, but I see the MacRumours article already has them. Independent of the Steve Jobs exhibit, there is also a talking video "portrait" of Woz in t

To test it I just grabbed the first image I found on the New York Times website. It's a pretty good one: http://mustachify.me/?src=http://i1.nyt.com/images/2011/11/1...
