I'm pretty sure that PoC||GTFO is the successor to Phrack (at least in spirit). They list pastor@phrack.org as the submissions address.

But if the file and site are both accessed over HTTP, it's possible for a bad actor to alter the file and then change the signatures+checksums listed on the page to reflect it.

Nitpick: Why is the link to 'Atom' in the article just a link to a Google search for 'atom editor'?

Honestly I don't understand the craze of wanting to put EVERYTHING in a browser. I'm sure in many cases (for game development at least) it's easier to do it native, not to mention a tonne faster and less resource-intensive.

As an aside, clearly written code does a pretty good job of explaining what it does, but not why . Sometimes there will have been reasons for avoiding a particular method, which isn't made obvious by the code itself.

I was thinking this was where the article was going, but the solution ended up being a lot simpler. It leaves traces and notifies the user, though... I suppose yet another way would be to make a copy of the executable before the overwrite,

On the whole, good advice. Nothing new. However; "[on reusing usernames] .. Your username and password combination is a lock, and your username is half of it, so obscure it. " -- this bit is nonsense. This entire article could be

Good lord, please don't share Buzzfeed tripe here. This is blatant advertising barely disguised as content.

Sorry to be a pedant, but that doesn't mean the supplied binaries have been built with the exact source provided :^) Also, the binaries are being offered for download over HTTP with no signatures.

Unfortunately the article linked doesn't go into much more detail than the headline. More in-depth article here: http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/americas/76126951/being-frozen-...

Which articles are you referring to in particular? I've not noticed glaring inaccuracies in any of the stories on El Reg.

Interesting suit. Seeing as Apple don't currently allow you to downgrade to an older version of iOS, I wonder what the outcome will be? Perhaps this is a jailbreakers delight in disguise.

I haven't been able to access the .com/.se/etc in years, since it was blocked in ~2012 by most ISPs here in the UK. That said, proxies are but two clicks away and faster than connecting to a VPN.

This happened to me in Vietnam. A police officer pulled over me and a friend as we rode past, then came up with a story about us having 'incorrect papers'. Later found out from the owner of the hostel that the same thing had happe

I can barely imagine the price that information and access would have garnered if sold to a less reputable entity. In the end, $2,500 for access to all of Instagram's code and static content is a complete rip-off.

This is a neat operator, but my first thought was that I'd probably forget it's specifics and misuse it thinking that it checks for falsy variables as well. This wouldn't help you in checking for a blank string, say.

This is the reason that I always take a very sceptical view on mobile contracts that offer "unlimited" data. I wonder if they'll be allowed to continue calling it "unlimited" here in the UK after this revelation.
