Totally agree. I wrote my thoughts and experiences on FP-TS and maybe those csn help - https://rockyj.in/2022/03/24/fun-with-composition-2 IMHO, functional TS is great with ramda, currying etc. and solves a lo

Exactly, why not build a solid product that serves a modest market and earns a steady revenue over a long term. You can focus on quality, features, innovation etc. and still run a sustainable business. Not everyone needs to grow all the tim

It all started with Scala which was a decent, functional Java (at the time) and then they formed a commercial organisation called "TypeSafe" around it. Then it took on VC money and then also renamed itself to "Lightbend"

Not many. Standard dev tools like latest versions of VSCode, Chrome, JDK, Node, Ruby and some utils like Git, Gimp, Inkscape, etc. On Linux Mint I just have to do (maybe) an update of 100MB a week.

This is so good, but Arch only annoys me in 1 way - that every week I need to download 500MB of updates. If I go away for a couple of weeks, my computer will most likely have 2 GB of updates pending.

I agree. Also, it is hard to do things in parallel (or in a separate thread), e.g. make two remote calls in parallel, wait for them to complete and aggregate the results. Trivial to do this is Node.js or JVM not so much with Ruby.

I had built an "async" version of this - https://github.com/rocky-jaiswal/async-utils/blob/main/src/p... Basically can solve a lot of problems by passing state to a list of "piped&quo

I would take a 1 day multiple round interview any day. Nowadays, it is like - - Recruiter reaches out on LinkedIn. You reply. - Call with recruiter, repeat every thing in resume. Recruiter says ok, sometimes they just say we were looking fo

You must be right, although I could not find any feature lacking (touch screen, Android Auto etc. it is all here). Yes, you will be hard pressed to find an engine above 120bhp but electronically it is all there. But I am no expert and am no

This is pretty crazy! New cars are out of reach for most people in the west. I work in DE and am visiting IN for holidays, I was surprised to see that smaller SUVs with decent tech and features are available here for under / around 10K

No mention of Elixir at all, which was one of the "most loved" language in SO survey. Not sure what to make of it.

This is so good. I have a old iPad and a PS3, they work well but I cannot do anything on them. Companies should just let you install Linux on hardware they do not want to support.

So true, excellent point! I just do not understand startups choosing Python/Ruby in 2022 when you can get most of the features, type safety, concurrency, async and 5 times more speed in other languages.

Nice! I really wish we could have a CLJS -> JS compiler in pure JS (something like TypeScript) and no need for JVM or JVM libs.

It is not so easy. Changing jobs cannot be always the answer. In Europe there are not many "remote friendly" companies and also it's not that you will get a 20% pay rise every time you switch. On top, it is extremely hard to

Seems a bit illegal. Also do not run random scripts from the internet which control your browser. For all we know, they could be scraping your own sensitive data.

I tend to disagree, this was true few years ago but there are now tons of frameworks / boiler-plates which also enable devs to launch fast and stay fast e.g Phoenix Yes, Rails is very mature but the difference is not that huge anymore.

I have another way to look at the same thing. Ruby/Rails as a development language/framework is great and no doubts about it. I used it for many years. Would I recommend it for any new project / startup now (other than a simp

Nice! A similar extension is Stylebot ( https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stylebot/oiaejidbm... ) I use it for a few sites. Basically select "divs" with selectors and hide them with CSS.
