I personally like these detailed step by step readmes. It’s helpful for someone clueless dropping in to get quickly started and develop a working prototype. Too many times you’re left to your own devices when setting up dependencies. I tota

MK movie really got me into KMDFM. We'd hum the song on repeat as kids.

That's awesome! I've used "the pool on the roof must have a leak" a few times as well. That movies has so many one-liner quotes that still live on to this day.

Are you me? Similar experience - Commodore 64 was my first computer (albeit a hand-me-down). Folks kept yelling about spending too much time on the computer while I was trying to get stuff to run lol.

You should see the way I use my Cayman. It’s starting to see more track miles than road miles. Finally using all the speedometer I paid for.

Getting to desert areas to maintain the rails takes time and resources. We're talking about large swaths of deserts and desolate land with absolutely no cities or towns for double-triple digits of miles.

I've used FreeIPA with great success in the past. It really took care of the client onboarding and replication and hid all the ugly complexity behind it. UI was also pretty dang good.

I'm with you. I find that I feel like I know Linux like the back of my hands because I can fluidly interface with stock tools with a breeze. These new tools are great but I just don't see them widely spread across many remote syst

After 15 years, my black MacBook is in a closet. I will admit that it's still looking good compared to my spouse's 2007 white MacBook (that we still have). Running Linux on those was painful due to trackpad driver issues :(. Other

I cut my sysadmin teeth doing tape work in early 2000s. It was quite fun but I don't miss changing tapes and ensuring that the FC tape loader library properly labeled them.

This was such a big issue with my wired Sony headphones. Can't tell you how many I've gone through. On another hand, I've a pair of Bose wireless headphones for close to 6 years now. Battery is still good enough for 2+ hours

Heck, even Daredevil had some fantastic scenes too. Particularly the staircase scene.

I bet we'll see even better cameras in mobile phone sooner or later. iPhone 13 max pro already has a fantastic camera.

Folks that buy trucks for utility will keep buying ICE trucks until the EVs solve that problem. For now, this EV truck is for folks in the city and suburbs - hardly any of them will see true off-roading.

I vividly remember compiling KDE (12-24 hours) and Firefox (3+ hours) back in like 2006. The hype and complains about Gentoo’s compilation times were legendary back then.

That's right, don't use CloudFormation. Use CDK which will generate and obfuscate CF for you and you won't have to worry about it.

This maybe just an anecdotal conjecture, but I've noticed this a lot lately with many news sites. It seems that with the advent of social media and smart phones, our attention spans have drastically shortened. Now all the articles have

Humility goes a long way in life. Anecdotally, it's definitely something a lot of software developers and systems engineers should learn how to practice.

How do you typically screen for such personality characteristics? I'm curious since my current role involves interviewing a lot of engineers. I too have noticed similar traits in others in the past and I shamefully admit that I myself

I've used Martin Matuska's mfsbsd in the past to install a system with ZFS on root. I believe now that's natively supported, but back in the day it was quite an involved thing :)
