I couldn't imagine coding C# without a debugger (Visual Studio). I couldn't imagine coding Ruby or PHP with a debugger. Maybe I've just not been incentivised enough to learn how to properly debug Ruby/PHP though.

When the app store for iOS was released my first thought was that the Mac really needed one of these, mostly based on how easy it is to install things through Linux package managers like apt - and of course updating everything easily was ni

I'm surprised you didn't know about the online thing, and even more so that your associates have barely heard of them. They have advertised a fair amount - try asking your non IT literate and gamer friends. Oh well.

LoveFilm is very big in the UK, and would say the NetFlix of Europe is an apt description. I think this deal has to be good for both parties here, and would be surprised if they rebranded LoveFilm. It's a good name.

I agree, and am hoping they will sooner, rather than later, rewrite it from scratch. I did just move to an SSD over Christmas though, and must say it is significantly better now - especially noticeable is I no longer seem to be getting beac

I recently upgraded my MBP 5,1 from a WDC Black to an OCZ Vertex 2E and I'm really impressed. My XBench stats aren't as high as other people with the same drive, but I'm more than happy w/ it.

I'm curious as to whether the Windows Phone 7 devices scroll smoothly, in many ways their phone team seems to be working closer to the Apple-way than the Google-way.

I once named a deployment system "Parachute". Because, as with a parachute... we were f*cked if it didn't deploy properly. A tenuous link, but we still laugh about it now. And because of that, you would never forget what it actually does. I

Exactly. All's well (for the most part) in the major cities, but if you're not in one of them you're damned. Basically, it's BT network for sneakernet for you. Good luck finding a BT reseller that's not got bandwidth caps or some sort of sh

Yet another proud reason to be British. sigh ... and so much for our sarcastic sense of humour. Although, maybe this says more about the people we have acting as judges in our legal system, than anything else.

I would have thought it was a great way of letting both parties know they have a similar sense of humour, and sets the tone for future emails (i.e. they don't need to be overly formal). Quite nice really - and I would also presume the sende

I think it's worth pointing out that "high school" in the UK finishes at 16, so he didn't so much as drop out of school as decide to not go to sixth-form/college (which is optional - and is usually two years and fits between high school and

Wasn't there talk about Facebook switching to ARM servers at one point? What happened to that?

Fingers crossed, though I rather suspect they will keep this schtum (especially if they've gone non-apple). Alternatively, I might just be full of Mac Mini Server boxes — but I wouldn't bet on it.

Your thing about sleep surprises me, as that's my favourite feature of the Mac. Whereas I can't truly trust my Win7 HP to come back from sleep OK, my MBP is always perfect. It eats a lot of power while sleeping, which I've never really fi

As a .net developer, desperately trying to move away from the MS stack, I was hoping this was going to be someone asking Ballmer why people creating startups should choose the MS stack over the open source, or really any other, route. I wou

You don't sound overly confident about it, and simply from that I'd have to lean towards "no". I'm not sure about the technicalities, but can't you start some sort of partnership/consortium situation where you can bid for (and work on) larg

This is great news, if for no other reason that prowling google for answers is 100%[1] more effective than it used to be, as most searches lead me straight to stackoverflow. [1] well, 100%-ish. I've not measured this. Nor am I going to.

You can set up shortcuts for those things with a combination of BetterTouchTool (free) and Divvy (not so free). BetterTouchTool might even do everything you need, but I'm not completely sure about that.

Really impressive. You can add more gradient points by clicking where you'd like the new colour to start, and you can remove by "dragging" them off. I'm sure I'll make use of this.
