It was quite genuine, I didn't mean to offend or upset. Lesson learnt! You don't mention this, but I didn't to edit my original post, as i'm not a big fan of editing post content - but rather adding as part of the conversation.

I'm sorry you took such offence at me using "cruel and unusual" as a turn of phrase, rather than to mean it's dictionary definition. I'll admit I'll happily use it in conversation - but perhaps I should have been more careful online where t

Off-hand this seems like a rather cruel and unusual punishment. Are there any previous examples of this sort of order?

I can't help but wonder that perhaps the point of giving feedback on their own blog is not just about responding to Rocketr, but giving that same advice to all their readers too. Leaving the equivalent of that post as a comment on the origi

An interesting and relatively recent example of this is that ex-UK Prime Minister Tony Blair didnt publicly announce his intention of converting to Catholicism until he left office.

Just like they denied Sparrow of push notifications at first but as more and more users started pestering them about it, they finally had to give in. As far as I can Google, they didn't give in - and Sparrow ended up having to do it

I've been using 1Password for about six months now, and loving it. It can auto-generate passwords for you, so for most of my main sites now I actually don't know the password anymore. The advantage of 1Password is that it runs on Mac/Window

In their article where they announced the new UI, the explicitly stated that they removed all caps from the panel headers as people didn't like it, and then in the line below immediately said they'd put the menu items in all caps. I actuall

I'd love to hear more information about how to pick a decent niche. There's always some vague mention of "research" but really, what is this - what's involved. Surely you need an idea of what to do BEFORE you research it?!

I agree, one-day-only is a big motivator for me. Even though Panic's Diet Coda was priced a little more than I would normally have paid for an app I know I probably won't use very often, knowing the price was going to double tomorrow rather

I think that's a good enough reason to not include them in the stats, but I find the use of percentages confusing over simply the raw numbers? 20 People. 3 Not Looking, so removed. It mentions your fellow students, so minus 1 more and we're

88% of Groom's fellow students currently have job offers on the table, with approximately 60% of those headed to start-ups and the remaining 40% mostly employed at consultancies. If the total group size is 20, why not use actual n

Before anyone get's too excited, note that according to a comment on the same article 96% of those men where under 1 week old - and thus legitimately males with midwife episodes. edit: apologies, that was from a comment on the article.

I've not actually heard of these guys before (maybe I've not been paying enough attention) but this looks like a fantastic product/service. This looks to be perfect for me to recommend to friends and family who want me to create them "a qui

It would be awesome if they did. When you hand over your password it isn't just your privacy that you're giving up, but that of all your friends too. Though technically Facebook should be suing the users who hand over their passwords. I sho

Personally I like their posts, and it certainly doesn't bother me when they reach the front page of HN. The only thing I'm tired of is all the predictable hate that goes their way. In fact, I find it a little petty and embarrassing for HN.

I only recently made the effort to switch to a tool like 1Password and it's great for creating on-the-fly secure passwords that I don't need to bother remembering. I believe there's quite a few products that do a similar job.
