To play devil's advocate, it could also indicate Randi is using a god of the gaps type play and psychics have given up knowing he won't part with the money.

Phenotype space is probably not continuous given genome structure. So it appears like you can vary features almost arbitrarily, as you see in the Oblivion video game, but in fact you see a lot of genetic collisions due to a much smaller sea

I've heard enough of these stories to have no doubt this is a real experience, but what could a scientific explanation of this possibly look like? I take coherence of worldview very seriously and will rewrite my entire ontology if nece

I recently wrote an R package that computes the differences between arbitrary R objects as closures precisely for the reason the authors gave in their abstract: it is much more computationally feasible to remember changes in program outputs

AI is both singular and plural. The important difference is whether there are zero or non-zero, irrespective of their relative competitions. Human intelligence took millions of years to evolve. Sorry, but AI(s?) will develop faster.

As shortly as I can muster: we live in a world with finite resources. Any consumer of these resources for its own purposes, whatever they may be, is in direct competition with us (all human civilization). Any entity better equipped to gathe

Opal is a really neat gem for translating Ruby to JavaScript. For those who know some math, I used it to convert some Ruby code I had written to perform finite field arithmetic ( https://github.com/robertzk/FiniteFields

This passage is fascinating. Each sentence, beginning half wisdom marred by its finish of sarcastic cajolery. I'm very confused, in a good way.

I don't understand. When sweep frees an object, it invalidates the "next" object of the previous object in the linked list, breaking the traversal next time a gc() is called. Doesn't the linked list have to be patched? (

Of course, your computer simulation completely disregards the possibility of some very large (but rare) numbers (possibly of density zero) not being expressible as such a sum. You merely verified it for low finite integers. I am very unconv
