I think what gets lost in this debate is the fact that in most major US cities you can have two cars, a yard with a lawn you can mow and a guest room without sacrificing walkability and public transportation. I live in a working class nei

I'm in the same boat -- I'm 45 and a mediocre mountain bike racer, but over the last few years my motivation to train has gone down considerably. The problem is bike racing has been my "thing" for so long that's it&

When you start thinking of street parking as publicly funded storage space for private property, it really makes you question why such a large percentage of urban space (and money) is dedicated to it.

That's the trick with Siri. I use it on my Apple Watch when I'm riding my bike with an AirPod in: "Siri, play this podcast," or "Siri, call so-and-so." I think the secret is low expectations.

I really like the idea of using XR for sports training, like in snowboarding goggles or cycling classes. Almost all road cyclists use some sort of stem mounted computer for GPS and/or fitness tracking, and it would be amazing if someon

I don't know if it's still the case, but some third party libraries are required to run on launch. I worked on a an app where the Facebook login library took 600ms to load, and was required to run on launch.

That's what I used to tell people about San Francisco when I lived there twenty years ago -- the high end restaurants are great, but what's more impressive is that the average neighborhood eatery is more often than not really amaz

I had that happen with a sleep tracker for Apple Watch. It was a few dollars for the app, but to actually view the data it tracked while you were asleep , you had to upgrade to the premium subscription. Fortunately it was easy enough to ge

When my son was born, my friends without kids would bring food by and want to hang out, while my friends with kids would just text us after they left food on our doorstep.

One thing I learned when my son was born is eating well is really tough to do when your mind is somewhere else. Mealtrains -- friend sourced meal prep -- are popular for people with newborns, but I've taken to dropping off meals (or se

That was my first thought, too. On the other hand, if you're a local engineer who feels stuck in their current position it could be a good opportunity to fill the void.
