I've definitely seen the first - probably the first major performance issue that everyone runs into when using an ORM. By "N rows", do you mean having a view that only renders a constant number of rows, but your database quer

Thanks for the info. Does avoiding indexing high cardinality fields keep down the memory usage of an open index? I assume it would reduce the disk usage as well.

Did you need a customized server configuration of Elasticsearch to enable this kind of throughput? And do you split your indexes up by day or some other criteria? We're running a similar configuration and I'd like to know the limi

Totally unrelated to the subject matter, sorry: what is the service that generates the author's picture on the top left? I've been seeing them a lot lately and I don't really understand why people use them in place of a real

As someone who's relatively new to tiling window managers (I've used manual ones like Divvy and Moom quite a bit though): is this approach only really effective with large monitors? I've given Amethyst and other WMs a shot in

I'd argue the opposite about rate limiting - If you can add it in a way that allows 95% of valid use cases to never run into it, but stops broken implementations and bad actors from degrading your service, it's a net win for your

I'm a Canadian student too. You can definitely get this, I got the email this morning. Try one of the alternate "prove you're a student" methods.

I renewed mine a few weeks ago after the 2 years expired. As long as you're still a student, just apply for renewal and they'll give it to you. I also got the student pack right away, probably because of my student status.

Try running it with `mvim -u NONE <filename>`. That disables all initializations from your .vimrc, plugins, etc. so you can see how fast "vanilla" vim is.

My (totally subjective, anecdotal only) experience has been that a lot of developers who have moved away from day-to-day coding tend to have less of a sense of what's new and interesting in technology. This would make sense, given that

One problem with modern digital storage is the lifespan of the storage medium. Compact discs only last about 10 years, and the "longer-term" magnetic tapes are not much better at about 20-30 years [1]. It seems like we've mad

Sure, it's easy to do with your own code. But what about apps that don't vendor their dependencies? If you need to pull in third-party dependencies when you deploy or test, it's still possible to maintain your own mirror, but
